What do they have that you wish RCCL had?

Interesting thread! As a more frequent Princess cruiser who has sailed RCI (2 weeks baby!) I can tell you what I missed on our last (and first) cruise with Royal.

1. Freshwater pools

2. Ability to bring wine onboard (not sneak!)

3. More chocolate desserts! :D

4. MUTS for hubby

5. Big spa raffle on the first day! Where they pick names in front of you and give out tons of free stuff.

6. MUSTER DRILL IN PUBLIC ROOMS! NOT lined up like cattle outdoors!

:)

Well some of your desires have been met. Freedom and Liberty pools are fresh water and on some RCI ships muster are held inside in public rooms such as the Schooner Bar, Chops, Portofino and the theater. Wherever the muster is held, the most important thing is to listen to the instructions and information imparted at the gathering.

As far as MUTS is concerned, I was in favor of that when Princess first introduced the concept but am certainly less than enthusiastic about the fact that instead of limiting it to evenings, the movies and other features are shown from 8am onward, spoiling at least one pool venue for those who wish to relax by the pool during the day without distractions.

I have never noticed a paucity of chocolate desserts onboard RCI nor a preponderance of them onboard Princess. On at least one evening there is frequently a chocolate buffet.:)

While I know it's not formal "tea", I do recall around 4:00 there being some special snacks in the Windjammer, i.e. scones, cinnamon twists, jams, etc. I grabbed a plateful for DH & I and some coffee for our own "tea" as we had late dinner....worked for me since no one saw me spill it on myself in my cabin!! :D

I LOVE the rotational dining on Disney. You rotate through 3 different dining rooms during the cruise (each has a different theme), but your dining time stays the same, your table number stays the same, AND best of all, your servers go with you too!

We've only done 3 cruises; our very first was Royal Caribbean, and by the end of that week I really couldn't stand the thought of sitting at the SAME exact table with the same exact people, for 7 nights in a row.

Our next 2 cruises were on Disney and I really enjoyed the change of scenery, every night. :)

Our 4th cruise will be this fall on the Explorer of the Seas, and I hope to break up the monotony of the same dining room by choosing Portofino one night.

Other than that, I love RCI and can't wait to sail on the Explorer!! :D

Try telling that to someone who requests traditional dining and ends up #170 on the wait list and is forced into anytime dining or to frustrated travel agents who try unsuccessfully to get their clients the traditional dining that they have asked for, because Princess insists on devoting more dining rooms to anytime dining even when a majority of their guests have requested traditional. Under that system, anytime dining becomes not an "option" but a fact of life.:( When Princess first announced the concept I thought that they had come up with a great way to please everyone but their implementation of the concept makes it more of a source of aggravation than an accommodation. As with most great ideas, the devil is in the details.

2. Hard-wired computer jacks (for internet access) in all staterooms. It wouldn't be that hard to do, since phone and television jacks are already there.

Probably no harder than getting Princess to add interactive TV to their cabins which they have yet to do even on ships still under construction.:(

How many more trees must die to supply all that unnecessary paper that Princess generates because we can't check our accounts on our stateroom TV?:D

The biggest problem I have with most of the suggestions that I have for changing the way RCI, or any other line for that matter, operates its cruises, is that likely result will be to homogenize the cruise experience and make every line indistinguishable from its competitors. It reminds me of the fiasco that almost destroyed Coca Cola®, when they decided to change the formula and came up with New Coke® because surveys showed that a large number of people preferred the taste of Pepsi-Cola®. What they failed to take into consideration was that those people who preferred Pepsi's taste, saw no reason to change to something that tasted "like" Pepsi. Coca-Cola quickly dropped New Coke and reintroduced the original drink as "Classic Coke". I don't want RCI to become a clone of some other line nor do I want those lines to become carbon copies of RCI. Let each of them offer their particular styles of cruising and let us choose which ones suit us best. If RCI decides to adopt some of the suggestions on this board, let it be because of the intrinsic value that change will bring to their cruiseline and not just because some other line does it.

I don't know why some here take this thread so personal. We are not bashing RCCL. I it is a basic fun question to ask - chill out!

My wishes:

-freshwater pools

-a kids only pool, separate from the "everyone" pool and solarium

-more areas to get your "free" drinks instead of just windjammer

-another quick place to get lunch like a pizzaria or BBQ grill near the pool.

-no smoking rooms available on one side of the ship (including balconies)

-no surcharge for Johnny Rockets if you only want a milkshake to go.

The laundry facilities do nothing for me since I refuse to do laundry on vacation. It sounds like their service is reasonable anyway.

I think my MAIN wish would be to set up a system for chair hogging. If you want to leave your chair, you need to put a small colored disk down before you go or the chair can go to anyone. The discs are available around the pool deck and are changed every hour. Once they move onto a new color, those "old" chairs are available for taking.

Have you sailed in July or August recently? Personally speaking we'll never do it again after our experience on Enchantment July 2005. Infants in diapers in the solarium jacuzzi's with no rules being enforced was the last straw for us. We'll stick to land based vacations during summer months. Royal would never offer adult only cruises because families account for the majority of the profit the cruise line makes. The entire cruise line is geered towards families. Especially the larger newer ships. I'd be the first one to book an adult only cruise but it's never going to happen.

My family has always avoided the summer months in the Caribbean as they are more expensive and way too hot. (If we wanted to go the Carib in the summer we would just go to Barbados) So I haven't had any problems in that department. During the summer we go on cruises that would interest a more middle aged demographic such as Alaska or Europe.:)

Sorry, you'll have to choose between the two. Either you spend your afternoon doing laundry, or you spend it having tea.

:D :D :D :D

I would only want self laundry for ironing my dresses for dinner. ut I understand where you are coming from, on our last cruise my mom spent an hour washing our whole families unmentionables and swimsuits:eek:

When we sailed on the Norweigen Jewel we used the self service laundry facillities at the end of the day (around midnight-1:00 am). It was always empty at that hour. It didn't have a negative affect on our cruise experience at all. We were able to pack much lighter than usual. Which is a plus since I'm the one who has to carry all the heavy luggage. :)
