Jay Bee Posted February 27, 2007 #103 Share Posted February 27, 2007 mommabean, Thanks so much for all the info. Who was the CD, and what was your opinion of him/her? (Sorry if this is in the thread somewhere -- couldn't find it.)
mommabean Posted February 27, 2007 Author #104 Share Posted February 27, 2007 mommabean, Thanks so much for all the info. Who was the CD, and what was your opinion of him/her? (Sorry if this is in the thread somewhere -- couldn't find it.) Jan, the CD was Jimmy Rhodes. He was fine. He did his job although I didn't find him to be especially entertaining. I had no problem with him either other than he wasn't the one to run the quest. One of his staff was in charge of that and I can't even remember her name. I like it best when the CD runs that show. He also picked the wrong couple to the the middle couple in the love and marriage game show. The man of the couple was so rehearsed it wasn't funny. But it was obvious the way he would gain control of the mic to tell one of his pre-planned jokes about the question he knew would be in the mix. Poor Jimmy turned down the couple who got the most claps because the clapping came from their huge amount of family members present. I thought that would have been the best choice - pick the ones who can be easily embarrassed in front of the relatives. :D I wish I could remember who was CD on my first Majesty cruise. Now that one had a talent for picking L&M game show couples. That middle couple will never be beat for funniness - not in the rest of my life. I should look that CD up in my old cruise compass. * I found what I was looking for just out of my own curiosity. It was Warren Allen who was CD in August of 2005 on Majesty. I don't even see him listed on the RC productions site as being a CD anymore. Too bad. He was funny.
uncletr21 Posted February 27, 2007 #105 Share Posted February 27, 2007 Thanks for posting the cruise compass. I notice the soda card is really "soda and juice" card. Anyone know what juices are available? I think my youngest would like a "choc milk" card! Also, for 3 night cruise I assume they charge you for 3 days so $6 x 3 = 18 is the cost for an adult to have soda? They don't consider that last morning a "day" right? Thanks. Well, it's actually called a "drink package" and yes, it includes soda and juice. Milk is always free in the Windjammer and at meals in the dining room. And you are correct about the pricing. Michuck Posted February 27, 2007 #108 Share Posted February 27, 2007 I just got back from the Majesty yesterday, and what a gorgeous ship she is! She's always been one of my favorites, but the changes have made it even more so. The Windjammer is very well laid out (altho I do think they could have either had a wider staircase leading up to the upper level from the Windjammer, or a second stairway on the opposite side. If someone was coming down, it was too narrow to walk up at the same time (and vice versa). It was certainly not a big deal, just a 'mention'. You also have to try the Compass Deli (on deck 12, above the Windjammer). Yummy, yummy, yum yum! Would just about prefer getting something from there (there is no charge) than even the buffet at the Windjammer! Delicious baguettes with brie and parma ham, or tuna salad, or egg salad, or a Cuban sandwich (and they'll press them for you). There were other things on the menu too, but I can't remember what they are. We thought the show Sunday nite (Boogie Wonderland) was one of the best we've seen. Some of the elevators have been replaced, others got facelifts. All got new veneer on the outside. We were in an inside cabin - The new beds/bedding are wonderful! I would've taken home the mattress if I thought I could get away with it - I think it was more comfortable than the one at home. The flat screen TV was great, and reception was perfect (unlike the old ones!). The bathrooms were redone too - new countertop, we had a new commode, new sinks, new bathroom hardware. The drawers were new in the cabin, and they did away with the 'back' of the bed (the back if it were 2 beds in the cabin, when it looked like couch - hope that made sense!), so the room is a slight bit larger. The dining rooms are gorgeous (and the service, as always was excellent - Vilma was our headwaiter). The casino was redesigned as well, and the new layout made it more roomy. If you have any questions, I'll try and answer them. Unfortunately (silly us!) we did not take any pictures! Michele
mommabean Posted February 27, 2007 Author #109 Share Posted February 27, 2007 Hi Michele, Welcome home. Your impressions are similar to mine. I thought the same thing about the windjammer stairs. I always thought they did a nice job with the Boogie Wonderland show although I missed it last time. After reading your description of the Compass Deli, I'm even more disappointed that I missed it. It sounds like they are really doing the Cuban sandwiches the way they should be done. Yummy. I want to go again!! Did you notice the one funny thing about the elevator buttons on the outside? Some were replaced, some weren't - even on elevators that were side by side. Maybe they are still working on it. :) Did you get to stop on Coco Cay? I'm assuming you did since I don't remember any bad weather over the weekend.
kirbmeister Posted February 28, 2007 #110 Share Posted February 28, 2007 My son keeps asking me if there is a Wheel of Fortune machine in the casino. Anyone out there know?
mommabean Posted February 28, 2007 Author #111 Share Posted February 28, 2007 Yes, there are several machines called Wheel of Fortune. I don't remember hearing them like I've heard on other ships.
Michuck Posted February 28, 2007 #112 Share Posted February 28, 2007 I did notice that about the elevators!! DH and I thought it was funny how some of the buttons (both inside the elevator and out) were the old ones, and some were new. There are 8 Wheel of Fortune machines for $1.00. I should know - I spent enough $$ in them, and never hit a thing. I did hit a $1,100 jackpot on the Unicorn multi-line machine (playing for 5 cents, at the maximum) in the back of the casino (near the exit), and $275 on the one next to it on the last nite. On the first nite, someone one $6,000 on the Unicorn machine, but playing for 25 cents at the maximum. One other thing we noticed was that on the Daily Compass (the tear-off part you can carry with you), was that they didn't print the opening/closing hours of things like the Centrum shops, the casino, the Loyalty Ambassador. It was on another part of it that you normally wouldn't carry around with you. Michele
PH8 Posted February 28, 2007 #113 Share Posted February 28, 2007 Jotting down Unicorn on my to do list next week....:) So,it was a nickel machine??? Was it like a Party one?? The ones that you get to pick stuff if you hit certain things?/ I love those kinds.........
Michuck Posted February 28, 2007 #114 Share Posted February 28, 2007 The Unicorn mahcine is not at all like the Party machine - you can play up to 20 lines (at 5, 10 or 25 cents per line). There's no bonus with certain wins. I love the 20 line machines..... Michele

vacation bound Posted February 28, 2007 #117 Share Posted February 28, 2007 One of his staff was in charge of that and I can't even remember her name. PH8 Posted February 28, 2007 #118 Share Posted February 28, 2007 I just read a MJ review and it said you have to pay for the deli food??????? Really?? Thats crazy! There's no cover charge for Compass Deli, rather, you pay for what you order. For example, a smoked chicken wrap is $3.50 and so on.
Jay Bee Posted February 28, 2007 #119 Share Posted February 28, 2007 I just read a MJ review and it said you have to pay for the deli food??????? Really?? Thats crazy! I'm having trouble keeping track of what food you pay for, what's free, and what's free with a cover. Can someone clarify? Here's what I've gathered: Windjammer and Dining Room - included, of course, except special drinks Compass Deli - pay Johnny Rocket - $3.95 cover, after that free except shakes and drinks Freeze - pay Room Service - free except for tip Sorrento's - free (??) Is there anything comparable to the Promenade Cafe where snacks and coffee are fee and other items are charged for? Any other snack/food options? Thanks. PH8 Posted February 28, 2007 #120 Share Posted February 28, 2007 Sorrentos is free........ There is nothing comparable to the Promenade cafe...... Dont forget Seattles Best(coffee)---pay but you get a free pastry with it..........
mommabean Posted February 28, 2007 Author #121 Share Posted February 28, 2007 Now I really wish I had gotten a chance to go in the Compass deli. If it's a pay venue, I find that rediculous. PH8, when you go on Majesty, PLEASE check that out for us. I really thought the Compass Deli was supposed to be comparable to the Promenade cafe, only better. But if there's a charge I will be sure to consider it as good as not even being there when I cruise Majesty again. But of couse I won't eat at JRs with anything other than a free coupon. There is just too much food available on the ship for free. The only places I'll pay for are Chops and Portofino because they're a totally different experience.
