What is the absolutely most beautiful Island a cruise ship will visit?

Is there one island or port of call that really stands out as the most beautiful place that you have ever seen? My vote goes to Saint John, Saint Lucia, or Kauai?

Your vote for the most beautiful port of call tropical island.

Moorea....

What a wonderful South Seas island. I believe Moorea is my favorite in the whole world. I spent a lot of time on my balcony enchanted with the ancient volcanic mountains, the reef and multi colored waters. I did a boat trip and snorkeled and swam with the stingrays and sand sharks. It was hard to get out of the wonderful warm clear water.

There are several major differences between The South Seas Islands and the Caribbean such as the breath taking beauty of the large shear rock faced & emerald green craggy mountains, everything is very clean and pristine (unlike the many places in the Caribbean) and the people could not be nicer and friendlier.

Of the islands we have been to so far I would have to vote for St. Lucia, but there's plenty of others we want to visit.

NMNita, Sadly, most of the people you deal with on Tortola such as shop staff, waitresses, etc. are not native Tortolans. These are mostly folks that come from down island to work in the BVI. I have spent a lot of time on Tortola and the native Tortolans are some of the nicest, friendliest and polite people I have ever met.

Welsh Wizard, Shwmae, Sut ydych chi? I wish I had more Welsh. I've tried to learn a little for my visits there. So far my favorite part of Wales if I had to choose would be either the Gower or Snowdonia but there is so many beautiful places there my opinion could change hourly. ;) There's a lot to be said for such a small country! I have great friends that live in Llantwit Major. Lechyd da pob Cymro.

you are probably right and it is sad. Our first time there I didn't feel the hostility like we did last spring. Our dd lived in St Thomas for about 2 years and had very little positive to say about the locals. I guess we had the same experience the second time we did a land trip to Aruba. The first trip was in 1980 before any of us had ever heard of the island. The people were so nice, we were amazed at what a true paradise it was (not for beauty, but overall) then we retuned in the mid 90s for a week. The island had become a big tourist draw, because there are not that many people on the island, there was an influx of Venelzualians (spelling) working there. Everything had changed so much. We still love Aruba but the friendliness and service isn't what it was 25 years ago. NMnita

I was surprised that so many people picked Saint Thomas. I was very under impressed with that Island. There were so few trees on the island, just a few bushes. I was told it was very scenic at one time before most of the vegetation was lost by hurricanes and over development.

Another odd choice, Aruba? Nice for sunshine and casinos but not very scenic. It looks like Nevada.

I like high mountains and thick rain forests with alot of views of blue oceans.

For me, I can tell you why I pick St Thomas and maybe why someone would say Aruba. St Thomas, have you ever been up in the St Thomas hills and looked down to the harbor? Never have I seen such a beautiful sight. When you do away from the pier area there are lots of trees. As for Aruba, probably the uniqueness of the island would interest some, the Divi Dive trees, the whiter than white sand and the clear water which, I think is the clearest of all the islands. NMnita

We find St. Thomas and Aruba beautiful also. I first saw St. Thomas from a small plane- it was so beautiful and remains so for us.

Beauty is different for different people, true? We enjoy desert beauty- so like Aruba, Curacao, and Bonaire, cacti and all.

I vote for Komodo and Nias Islands in Indonesia. Nothing can match watching live dinosaurs swimming around the ship at Komodo. I always expect King Kong to come out of the jungle any minute.

Nias has a tribe of headhunters living on top of the mountain. They sell real shrunken heads for $10. Armed Ship's officers need to escort passengers to visit the headhunters to ensure that nobody takes the wrong heads.

1. St John - what I imagine a island paradise to be

2. Tortola - Lush green peaks and clear water

3. Oahu / Maui - having lived there for several years makes me a little partial to the natural beauty

4. Half Moon Cay - by far the best private island IMO :D
