Avoid Cruising Carnival

What does a twilight cabin mean?

Margie, Carnival calls them night owl cabins... they are basically the "worst" on the ship... as far as noise... generally under the disco (some under the piano bar)... so for people who are "night owls" it wouldn't bother them...

Ok, you guys caught on! I'm really the CEO of Royal Carribean and I thought it would be smart for me to get on here and bash these Carnival Lines people. Damn, I really didn't think you guy's where that smart!

Hey, guys. I don't know if the OP will ever read this, since he's disappeared, but I thought I'd chime in. On our RCCI on the MOS in August they gave us an upgrade and we did not know any better at the time. They put me, my oldest daughter, and my 4 and 6 year old in adjoining cabins above a bar that played live music until 2am. I would have loved to have been under the pizza place. It was a hard lesson to learn, but now we know... beware of upgrades. Moral of the story... this is not a carnival thing, it happens on all ships. Somebody's got to be in the room above the bar. I hope it's never me again.

Our Cruise over January was a nightmare. We are a family of 5. Our room was directly underneath the all night Pizza place. The noise was unbearable we never slept. We asked for another room. They said they had none. The purser came to our room and confirmed the awful noise. We asked to get off and get refunded as per Carnivals policy. They said they would assure it would get better. It got worse. To add to this the occupants of room 2 doors down smoked dope constantly. Called security twice they just stood in the hall and smelled it did nothing at all. Our children asked why the cant do something. What do you say to them.

Carnivals Customer Service after counteless phone calls emails etc never would refund us our money as requested ...but wanted to give us a 15%discount and credit on a future cruise. We could not believe it. We would never go again. Any hotel or reputable company would not only refund your money but would avoid a long drawn out process. Carnival:mad: would not even forward our concerns to Dickinson Carnivals President.

So do they care about you their service or your money?

Please feel free to call Carnival Customer Service or email them and ask what happens to you if a simular situation should occur as in room 8402 First week of January 07 on Carnival.

Really would be nice to know which ship. Based on Conquest class deck plans, 8402 is not under the Lido Pizzaria. Close granted, but not under.

8402 also doens't sleep five, so I'm guessing it was not Conquest class.

Carnival's vacation guarantee would have covered you had you read your contract and opted to use it. Your fault, your problem. :)

Once again Carnival corporate Executives have demonstrated their lack of regard for the health, safety and comfort of their passangers. Carnival's formal response to my complaint, outlined below, was consistent with and equivelent to Carninval President Dickinson's previously published reference to the missing RCCL passenger as "..a none event". Carnival failed to acknowledge the basis of my complaint and responded in form letter, as if I was making a comment on a service issue. BEWARE SPIRIT AFT Balcony HEALTH HAZZARD!

Sent: Monday, January 22, 2007 (via email and fedex direct delivery including a collected sample of the soot described below )

Dear Mr. Dickinson,

Having just returned from our 15th Cruise (our EIGHTH on Carnival), I must inform you that I remain unconvinced that Carnival’s Corporate leadership maintains passenger health safety and comfort in very high regard.

I am specifically referring to numerous complaints of copious amounts of black soot dropping unto the balcony of our stateroom 8277 (as well as that of our traveling companions in 8272) which I presented to the Spirit Purser staff beginning the fourth day of our cruise (including an initial SOOT sample which I had I collected in a plastic baggie on Friday) and continuing through the last day of the cruise. The only formal response I received was the attached FORM letter referencing only one of my written comment/complaints (ref # 001948298A). Although I did speak directly to the Ship’s Environmental Officer, Gianni, (and him provided a second SOOT sample which I had again collected in a plastic baggie) ) on two separate occasions, he could neither explain the cause of this disgusting situation, nor offer any assurance that it would be resolved during the course of our Cruise.

More importantly, after I cited my wife’s Cancer survivor status as well as my own health concerns as a post 9/11 NYC recovery official, (Gianni could or would not explain any of the possible health related effects resulting for being exposed to this soot (I do have one remaining soot sample which I collected on on the last afternoon of our cruise, I will gladly share it with your offices, assuming the ship’s personnel have not done so).

Suffice it to say that despite the fact that we severely curtailed our use of the balcony and certainly ceased to eat or drink out there, the fact that we had done so during the initial soot downpour occurrence on Thursday as well as on the second occurrence on Friday, the damage appears to have been done. Both my wife and I as well as our traveling companions, have been coughing insecently since those initial exposures.

Although this disgusting situation had significantly limited our enjoyment of a cruise amenity for which we paid a high premium (an aft balcony) my greatest concern is the lack of attention to my numerous complaints and the cavalier attitude in which they were (not) addressed. This is a shame because what could have otherwise been a wonderful cruise (the best Dining room and Housekeeping staff as well as BEST Cruise Director EVER!! and apart from some minor multiple incidents with non-flushing toilets and two out of three unsatisfactory excursions -which we called to Excursion Director's attention) was completely marred by this disgusting situation.

We do enjoy cruising and have certainly enjoyed AFT balconies in the past and hope to do so in the future, but regrettably NOT aboard Carnival.

What kind of noise is generated by the 24 hour pizza place?

I can understand the disco or the casino, but the pizza Place is a small place on the aft of the ship that gets FOOT traffic.[/quote

That was my immediate thought, Kelz! However, although I believe this OP is the usual one post wonder complainer, I have read a lot of posts lately complaining about noise on the aft of the ships, much to my surprise.

My cabin was as close to the elevators as you can get on Lido deck on Liberty-I was afraid of a lot of noise, but experienced very little! Although noise doesn't generally bother me that much, I wouldn't appreciate a drunken party on the Lido deck at midnight. They had those, as well as the buffets, and I never heard anything.

Even the cabins sandwiched between cabin-only decks can be noisy if you have renegade children or spring breakers roaming the halls. Or a Mr. and Mrs. having a brawl (or a lovefest!) next door! I guess I've just been lucky so far on all my cruises!:)

I love CCL. I make the most of everything that I can. I don't care how old the ship is, the decor, or anything like that. I'm there to have fun and relax. As long as I'm treated with respect, the ship isn't falling apart or going to sink, it's clean, and good food, I'm a happy camper. I'm like that with hotels. I've been on Carnival twice and it's been awesome. Things may happen, like tropical storms, but that's beyond CCL control. Certain things are beyond their control.

Sorry we dont frequent the chat line very often but there seemed to be a few questions regarding our posting.

The room was given to us on Carnival Victory as some kind of upgrade by the line as we waited for our cruise. We checked the ship plans and voiced our concern of its Location but were assured if it was noisy we would be moved.

No the Pizza making does not make noise but being the only place open draws everyone up after 2 AM from partiers to dancers etc etc. As I mentioned the purser was called to our room and confirmed the noise was extreme on several occasions this is documented by them.

As for the drug use. I dont really mind.. but I like to set an example for our children that its illegal and that it is dealt with. It wasnt. Yes others on our floor complained as well. it was not dealt with.Carnival does seem to promote itself as a family ship.

The other reason we would not cruise Carnival again was the input from other people on shore excursions. Their ships seemed to arrive earlier and departed later? We had this explained to us that Carnival always is one of the first out of port to get you back on the ship spending your money. They make no money when in port. If this is actually true I dont really know but seemed so to us.

We only tried to make people aware of our experience and hopefully they do not have the same. Its unfortunate some people make comments that are non constructive. To this date we have no refund. We will try writing Carnival Executives again but do iot hold much hope. Even when a poor guest went missing off a Carnival Cruise some time ago the President was quoted as saying it was a "Non-Issue" in the Miami Paper. So I assume our complaint is a Non-issue as well.

i think you cant jump on the guy and call him a troll just for voicing his opinion of his cruise.

When we try something for the first time and have a negative experience, we generally dont go back, and we are compelled to warn others.

If the OP feels that not only were they having a couple of bad experiences, but Carnival seemed to completely dismiss their concerns. Anyone would be annoyed. Whether it were a hotel, or a restaraunt, or in this case a cruise line.

While you might have had great experiences, and know that many others are satisfied, i dont think you can knock a person who has had a terrible experience from offering their negative opinion, especially if it isnt habitual or rediculous.

i have only been one 1 cruise and it was on the carnival imagination.I found everything on the ship to be great. The only thing I was disappointed in was that we put our luggage in the hall the night before to be taken off the ship and when we got off the ship my husbands garmet bag was gone. We had purchased the cruise insurance but unfortunately they would not pay until we turned it into our homeowners ins. So this time guess I'll carry my own bags off.

Never heard of drunk people going out or pizza late night? :D The OP's complaints are understandable. There are always cabins in "bad" areas. The message I get here is that it's okay to cruise with Carnival as long as you don't get a cabin next near the 24 hour pizza place. I learned from this board to be careful about where the cabin is.

Yawn....

Just as a warning, this site is made up of people that LOVE carnival, have cruised many times on Carnival, and plan on doing it again.

Good information on the room though - thanks. Are you sure the neighbors were not just smoking clove cigarettes, or were you just made they would not share:confused:

LIKE THE MAN SAID "THERE IS A SUCKER BORN EVERY MINUTE" OR AS THE FORMER PRESIDENT CLINTON SO PROUDLY ANNOUNCED "HOW CAN WE FOOL THEM TODAY?!"
