Avoid Cruising Carnival

Our Cruise over January was a nightmare. We are a family of 5. Our room was directly underneath the all night Pizza place. The noise was unbearable we never slept. We asked for another room. They said they had none. The purser came to our room and confirmed the awful noise. We asked to get off and get refunded as per Carnivals policy. They said they would assure it would get better. It got worse. To add to this the occupants of room 2 doors down smoked dope constantly. Called security twice they just stood in the hall and smelled it did nothing at all. Our children asked why the cant do something. What do you say to them.

Carnivals Customer Service after counteless phone calls emails etc never would refund us our money as requested ...but wanted to give us a 15%discount and credit on a future cruise. We could not believe it. We would never go again. Any hotel or reputable company would not only refund your money but would avoid a long drawn out process. Carnival:mad: would not even forward our concerns to Dickinson Carnivals President.

So do they care about you their service or your money?

Please feel free to call Carnival Customer Service or email them and ask what happens to you if a simular situation should occur as in room 8402 First week of January 07 on Carnival.

Yawn....

Just as a warning, this site is made up of people that LOVE carnival, have cruised many times on Carnival, and plan on doing it again.

Good information on the room though - thanks. Are you sure the neighbors were not just smoking clove cigarettes, or were you just made they would not share:confused:

Well, I won't be avoiding Carnival...

But I can tell you this would have happened on any line... nobody will refund your money because you took a bad cabin... if you are concerned about noise, pick your own cabin, do your own research ... sorry, that's not their fault, there are ALWAYS less than desirable locations on ANY ship... as for pot smoking, are you saying there were 2 guys on a cruise that never left their cabins? LOL! I've smelled pot on almost every cruise, but it quickly goes away and doesn't linger... I've never had it creep into my cabin and cause as much grief as it caused you... must have been some good stuff to permeate into your cabin from 2 doors down

Asking for a refund was a bit much... you should have used your guarantee and gotten SOME of your money back, but you wouldn't have gotten all of it. 15% was a VERY fair offer... a cruiseline wouldn't have refunded your money for the complaints you had... sorry, just not going to happen.

Wish you would have found this board before sailing, we might have been able to help...sorry for the bad experience. I see this is your first post as well...interesting. Thanks for sharing about the cabin

Good Lord! Thats terrible! I am so sorry to hear you had such a bad time, I have never encountered that but it surely doesnt sound like you were treated fairly. We encountered very loud neighbors on the Conquest. playing gospel music very loud, very early. We called security, they came, listened, and agreed it was unaceptable, and put a stop to it. Rest of the cruise was peaceful. I would try to get through to the C EO yourself, and lodge a complaint.:(

Well, I've never cruised Carnival (yet!), but I certainly wouldn't rule it out based on this one post! Carnival is obviously doing a lot of things right to be so successful and have such a loyal following.

Their first post too... (registered Nov 06) Go figure... Create an account to bash...

Well to be fair to the OP, I have a lot of posts and certainly like to bash guest relations and customer service, because I think they suck and deserve to be bashed.

The OP should have excercised the vacation guarantee and gotten off, but I doubt they were prepared to pay for their own expenses and seek reimbursement from Carnival later (you gotta read the fine print).

...maybe the OP is just one of those easily bothered people:confused: ...and will they even return to tell us what ship????

according to his/her join date, the OP has been registered since november. a search of these boards wld have brought up the "is an upgrade really an upgrade" when you are moved up decks but to a worse location, and the "sandwiched between 2 pax decks" position that i always espouse, and the numerous pitfalls and sometimes (wonderful upgrades) that can occur when booking a guaranty.

No. the OP knew about this board, and if s/he had researched it, might have been able to avoid it altogether by looking carefully at the deck plans on carnival.com and paying for a cabin assignment. nov join date was close to jan sailing, but might have been able to make a switch.

and toward this end, i have to say i agree w/ GC. not every cabin is optimal. and some are a lot less expensive than others and are the last to go for certain reasons. you need to check things out in advance.

What kind of noise is generated by the 24 hour pizza place?

I can understand the disco or the casino, but the pizza Place is a small place on the aft of the ship that gets FOOT traffic.

If what the OP said really happened, I can see why they didn't like Carnival, but again, one experience doesn't mean every sailing will be that way. First time posters that have nothing positive to say should be taken with a grain of salt.

I know, from speaking with many clients Carnival is a good line for the right person or family.

Let's see if we hear from OP again. I would bet not. NMnita

I agree that this is just an isolated incident...on our Miracle cruise you could hear a pin drop...we were right under the lido deck and right by the elevators...yet still never heard a thing...I hadn't found this board until after that cruise but I am happy that I did because on our upcoming liberty I was worried about our cabin location and noise and was able to get a great amount of information about it from others on here...As for pot smoking...that probably would annoy me a little to be quite honest, but I would have knocked on their door and let them know that we can smell it and if they don't do something about it fast we will be reporting them as it is inconsiderate...they could smoke on a balcony if they have one and maybe it wouldn't be so bothersome to us...anyhow just my 2 cents worth!

Hello there tc, I am going on my first cruise on the Fantasy in May, and I have booked a guaranty OV. If I was to receive an upgrade and did not like the room, can I decline or ask for a different room? I would like to be in the middle of the ship for I have been a little worried about seasickness. I will be taking bonine by the way!! LOL I am still learning even after all the reading and questions!! LOL I will be paying the last payment this week. So how long until I know which room I will be in?? Any advice would be great.

That's the thing with guarantees.. you go where they put you, you don't get to choose. If you want a specific location, book a specific cabin... you may not know your cabin until you get to the ship...

Did you say what ship you were on? Did you go through a TA or PVP or did you pick this cabin all on your own? If you are going to bash Carnival could we please have all the facts. If I were choosing my first cabin on my first cruise ship I would definitely check out all the areas and get as many facts as I could before I booked. It will be interesting to know how you chose this particular cabin and why the other passengers around you were not similarly upset with all the pizza making noise?

I am not to worried about where I end up, I am just so damn excited, as long as I can look out from my room I will be happy. I am looking forward to a wonderful, relaxing time. If I happen to get in a place that I feel the ship move, I will just take more med. LOL!!!

i think you cant jump on the guy and call him a troll just for voicing his opinion of his cruise.

When we try something for the first time and have a negative experience, we generally dont go back, and we are compelled to warn others.

If the OP feels that not only were they having a couple of bad experiences, but Carnival seemed to completely dismiss their concerns. Anyone would be annoyed. Whether it were a hotel, or a restaraunt, or in this case a cruise line.

While you might have had great experiences, and know that many others are satisfied, i dont think you can knock a person who has had a terrible experience from offering their negative opinion, especially if it isnt habitual or rediculous.

You should escalate your claim yourself. Send letters to as many people high up in Carnival as you can. My guess is you will get something out of it. Their treatment of you, if described accurately, is inexcusable.

I think it's silly to expect others to avoid Carnival for your one bad experience, though. Similar things can and has happened on just about every cruise line. Just read the other forums.
