Cinderelli Posted August 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 2, 2004 Ok, fess up! Which food did you try that you really didn't like while on the Conquest? And, was this a new food for you? Something exotic? Or one you've tried before, but their version was really different or just plain YUCKY? :p
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted August 2, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 2, 2004 CALIFORNIA ROLL (I think that is what it was called...) Y U C K This was actually on the GLORY... Tom
elvisillusions Posted August 2, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 2, 2004 Absolutely nothing. I tried every new species of food that I could get my hands on while on the Conquest... and heck, even as long as I didn't look at the escargot, even that was pretty tasty. ALL of the food was fabulous... :)
Taters Posted August 2, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 2, 2004 The worst of the food on the Conquest, by far, was the chocolate buffet. The best thing they had on my particualr sailing was the sugar-free chocolate cake. This chocolate buffet was really quite a joke in comparrison to what I've experienced on other Carnival ships. Also, the line took over 30 minutes. Ugh. Taters

mirrajay Posted August 2, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 2, 2004 OMG how can you not like California Rolls - YUM YUM! Hope they will have them on the Victory - anyone know?
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted August 2, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 2, 2004 mirrajay: I have seen them on most of my Carnival cruises --- I would bet you will see CALIFORNIA ROLLS.... Enjoy! Tom
modnar Posted August 2, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 2, 2004 Most of the food we ate on the Conquest was great. However, we had some kind of crab appetizer that neither my wife or I liked at all.
Cinderelli Posted August 3, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted August 3, 2004 I have heard pro and con about the fish and chips... any comments?:o
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted August 3, 2004 #10 Share Posted August 3, 2004 Sign me up as a BIG FAN of FISH AND CHIPS (Glory).. we usually eat there for snack/lunch 3 days of the week! (get your fries from the burger area though, as the Fish&Chip fries are just so-so...perhaps the fish grease thing... who knows) Tom
Jett456 Posted August 3, 2004 #11 Share Posted August 3, 2004 I had this on the Legend last week. It was disgusting. Three of us ordered it and noone liked it so it wasn't just me.
tjevans Posted August 3, 2004 #12 Share Posted August 3, 2004 Toss up between the chocolate buffet and The Point. For those who didn't read my trip review back in April, it seems that we had one of the very rare bad meals at the Point. There were no appetizers I liked, the steak was full of gristle, and the salad dressing unbearable.
Cotton Posted August 3, 2004 #13 Share Posted August 3, 2004 I had this on the Legend last week. It was disgusting. Three of us ordered it and noone liked it so it wasn't just me. Hate to hear that. It's been excellent on my past three cruises! Perhaps they spread the pate' on too thickly....it should be as thinly spread as tissue paper, barely noticeable with very little taste. sea_u_onboard Posted August 3, 2004 #14 Share Posted August 3, 2004 I agree that the fish and chips were great and to get the fries from the grill.
kristikae Posted August 3, 2004 #15 Share Posted August 3, 2004 To me the fish and chips were no better than Long John Silvers. I didn't care for them. The Escargot was the thing I ordered that I did not like. But I don't think it would matter where I ordered it. I just couldn't get over what it actually was. stokerhj Posted August 3, 2004 #16 Share Posted August 3, 2004 Lol, I think I tried the beef wellington with goose liver on my last Paradise cruise to be adventurous. Everyone at my table looked at me like I was crazy when I ordered it. It was pretty gross, but at least I felt like I had tried something that I normally wouldn't. Cotton Posted August 3, 2004 #17 Share Posted August 3, 2004 :D This is funny. It's so rare that anyone ever refers to pate' as goose liver, even though that's what it is. Beef Wellington is traditionally made this way. It's always on menus as, simply Beef Wellington, not "Beef Wellington with goose liver"....:D :D :D
Jett456 Posted August 3, 2004 #18 Share Posted August 3, 2004 I have had beef wellington before and really enjoyed it. I know there was pate in it and it was delicious. This on the other hand was just bad.

Tropicalconcrete Posted August 4, 2004 #20 Share Posted August 4, 2004 As far as I can see...the food is banquet style. It's not great and not bad. If you are looking for a fine rest. from Manhattan or LA...forget it. The food is just ok. If you go in with the idea that it's a wedding, then your ok. Otherwise, you will be disappointed! Vicar Posted August 4, 2004 #21 Share Posted August 4, 2004 I will cast another vote for the chocolate buffett as the worst. I love my chocolate , but there was just nothing there that I enjoyed. Which surprised me because the desserts in the dining room were excellent every night. Other than that I thought the food was terrific

Everyone at my table looked at me like I was crazy when I ordered it. It was pretty gross, but at least I felt like I had tried something that I normally wouldn't. I've had beef Wellington with finely chopped mushrroms in place of the liver. That was delicious. I'd never order the kind with the liver, because I dispise the taste of liver. Cotton Posted August 4, 2004 #24 Share Posted August 4, 2004 Tropical - Since you haven't cruised on a Carnival ship since 1983 Tropicale - how you can you make this statement? :D
Tropicalconcrete Posted August 4, 2004 #25 Share Posted August 4, 2004 Hey Cotton, Just back from the Triumph 7/24. I wouldn't make a comment like that if it were a 20 year old opinion. And yes my opinion does still stand. Just not the fine dining that we expected on our trip. Then again, if you read my review, you will see that though we had a great time, probably won't do Carnival again. All in all too commercial. :( Oh and guess I should update my profile huh?LOL!
