On some of our HAL cruises you encouraged to sing along with the piano man. But we have also been on some ships where the piano person did all the singing with no chance of chiming in.

 

Really depends on the person that HAL hires.

I have observed personal conflicts between cruise directors and "special" entertainers on HAL and Princess. For instance, occasionally the CD will exert his/her authority by making "no sing-along" or "must sing-along" rules, whichever will cause the piano player more frustration. For both CD and entertainer, it is a work environment, not a vacation. Haven't most people encountered similar situations in their own workplaces? I enjoy piano bars very much and have seen a number of entertainers cringe when the CD appears. Just my observation.

Thank you for responding, jjones. I haven't been aware of anything like that going on, but I haven't sailed every cruise going, either. :D
