Capt Larry & Mendenhall Glacier - is there time for both?

We will be coming in on the Star from 2:00-10:00pm and have reservations with Capt. Larry from 3:30-7:00pm. Will we have time to still go and see Mendenhall Glacier on the blue bus after Capt Larry's tour? This will be 9/7/04 when does it start to get dark?

MGT posts their blue bus hours of operation as 9:00am to 6:30pm; we have only used them in the afternoon. Maybe someone could suggest other options? I remember that some posters in groups of several people have hired a cab for what worked out to be a reasonable cost. Also, the visitor center at Mendenhall posts their Summer hours as 8:00am to 6:30pm, but don't know if that would prevent you from sightseeing there.

I'm not sure when it gets dark but we are booked with Capt. Larry on 09/04. For a small extra fee he will do a pick-up or drop-off at Mendenhall Glacier. We're booked on the early trip that day and will be dropped off at the glacier after the whale watching.

Thanks, for the info. I called Capt Larry's and they will pick up us up at Mendenhall Glacier and then off to the whale watching. We tender into Juneau at 12:00 so we will have a couple of hours before the whale watching to see the glacier.

As other's have said, nope not after the tour. Definately have Orca Enterprises pick you up at Mendenahall, for other's in the same situation without a pick up, just take a cab to Auke Bay. This makes the best use of your time. Last choice would be taking the shuttle back downtown. You are eating up an hour transfer time going back and forth.

There was not an extra fee for Orca Enter. to pick us up. Instead of buying the tickets through the blue bus @$10.00pp round trip we will buy them through Orca and give the vouchers to the blue bus folks and use their transportation to get there. Orca will pick us up afterwards. They mentioned we may not have enough time to do the hike to the falls at Mendenhall in 3 hours but I think we may try to power hike it. The sights there are supposed to be super.

For clairfication- if you want to get to the "falls" on the official trails- you are looking at 6 1/2 miles- with a lot of climbing switchbacks and down stairs. You can get to the falls by following the lake past the visitor center- on an unofficial trail.
