D1, D2 JS or Deluxe Guarantee Mariner

Recommended Posts

I am getting all my ducks in a row before the Caribbean sailings for 2008 come out. My question is, we are a family of 4 and if I read it correctly, we cannot book a D2 because they don't accomodate 4 pp. I wouldn't mind a D2--they have a sofa bed. We had a JS on Enchantment and my DD still had to sleep on an Aero bed because my DS is 14 and she's 9. Will that be the case in a D1 also? Also, what is your experience in the prices of a Deluxe Guarantee vs. a D1? I would love to do that because I would assume that all the Deluxe cabins are in good areas--true? How quick do I need to be to get a Deluxe Guarantee? Should I be on the phone first thing when the sailings come out?

You could book a cabin with 2 pullman beds--that may solve your "sleeping together" issues. Better yet--why not book 2 seperate rooms--so the adults can have some privacy and alone time, and the kids will have their own bath???? They're old enough not to need to be in the same room with you!

A guarantee cabin might not be available when the prices first come out. My experience has been they appear if the cruise isn't selling as well as the cruiseline would like.

For once I agree with CB, if you can afford to book 2 rooms, you probably will have more comfort on your cruise. If not, then do what seems best to you. Good luck and enjoy your cruise.

2 cabins is an idea, but my kids constantly fight and I know my daughter wouldn't like to be in the cabin alone with him. I did see one D1 on deck 9 and an inside that were adjoining. That probably wouldn't be much more than a JS so that may be an option. That way we can keep a better eye on them. I don't think we could swing 2 balcony cabins. Does anyone know if there would be room in the D1 for a small Aerobed if the sofa bed is also pulled out? Like I said, it worked well in the JS, but this cabin would be smaller. I guess it all depends on the prices when they come out...we'll just have to see.

From the cruises Iv priced out the D1 and adjoining cabin might very well be cheaper than the suite with 4 in it.

If you son is so badly behaved that he cant be trusted to stay in the cabin alone with your daughter, she can always join you in your cabin and leave your son in the adjoining cabin, or is he so bad that you can't trust him alone?

Money wise, who knows for sure for your date until it comes out with the pricing.

On Mariner there are no JS with pullman beds. D1-2-3 are all the same size cabins just different locations.

When we booked Mariner for May we wanted to get a cabin with a pullman for our daughter but discovered that on Mariner JS and D1 don't have pullmans. E1 has pullman. JS is 299sq-D1 206-E1 179. Kids are usually $499 in your cabin. $699?[check fare] in their own inside cabin.

My poor son...he really is a good kid and can be totally trusted, he just likes to antagonize his sister. He would probably be fine because he knew it was a privilege to have their own cabin.

If the inside prices are that good, I will definately try to get those adjoining cabins. They will be just fine in the next cabin and we'll have some privacy. Probably my best bet would be to call directly instead of trying to book online since they don't list all the cabins, right?

Absolutely correct...talk directly to a RCCL reservations specialist. They have access to all the cabins available. They never list all on the web site and there is no discount or benefit to doing it yourself!

The other idea is to book a family oceanview stateroom. There are a few that have multiple beds, sofa, and pullmans and sleep 6. They were designed exactly for your situation just no balcony. They're located forward on 6 and 7.
