pandabebe Posted August 10, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Just had a quick question re: alcohol. If I order a bottle of Vodka through Princess can I bring it to the dining room to drink? Can I carry it around the ship? I'm assuming that if I smuggle alcohol onto the ship that I would have to hide it and drink in my room, so just wondering that if I buy it from Princess if I have the right to carry it around...hahahaha. :p
Froufie Posted August 10, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Yes - if it's in a paper bag! :D :D ...just kidding. :p Don't know but a good question. I have heard of some cruisers having wine in their cabin, which is of course allowed on board, and bringing a glass w/them to the dining room??? Is this allowed? In fact when you show up in the dining room w/a glass of "fill in w/your favorite wine/drink" how do they know where it came from? You could have purchased it in one of the bars prior to dinner and did not finish it....... or you could obviously be bringing it from your cabin??? Has anyone seen this happen?
pandabebe Posted August 10, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Exactly...how would they know if you brought in a glass of wine from the bar or if you ordered it? Has anyone attempted walk around w/ their own bottle of wine / liquor or has anyone tried bringing it into the dining room in a glass? Help! Ciaus Posted August 10, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Interesting question. I agree with Froufie about bringing in a glass full but I don't know if you could bring the whole bottle. It might depend on how much you gamble in the casino :D Hopefully someone has a definitive answer
Lynda90 Posted August 10, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2004 You certainly can bring a glass of whatever you are drinking into the dining room or the show for that matter. It's really no ones business where it came from. Lots of people will purchase a drink at one of the bars and bring it in to the dining room. There is no sign on the glass saying where it came from and you won't be asked that either.
pandabebe Posted August 10, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Thanks for all the responses. I'll try carrying my vodka around the ship and I'll let you know if anyone stops me...hahahaha. Makes me think, if no one is going to stop me from carrying around my own alcohol then why should I even buy my alcohol from Princess...might as well take advantage of duty free before I board the ship. Any suggestions then as how to smuggle the alcohol onto the ship? Does putting it into your suitcase work the best?
Ciaus Posted August 10, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 10, 2004 rumor has it that simply wrapping it in giftwrap paper will work.
spingal Posted August 10, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 10, 2004 I was on the Caribbean Princess in May/June and we brought wine into the dining room every night. We brought wine we had poured into glasses and also brought an open bottle of wine - they did not charge us a corkage fee. But I have heard that some people have been charged a corkage fee. I guess if just depends on your waiter. And my brother-in-law had a flask with him that was filled with rum. No one ever said a word! But he was discreet with the rum. Hope this helps. spingal Posted August 10, 2004 #9 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Yes -- bring wrapping paper and constantly wrap it before you leave your cabin!! LOL!!!!
coiran Posted August 10, 2004 #10 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Sure can - I do it all the time - but don't carry the whole bottle around with you - that would be pretty obvious!
spongerob Posted August 10, 2004 #11 Share Posted August 10, 2004 I really hope this is a joke. If not, might I suggest Royal Carribbean Lines? A flask is classy, a miniature in a purse is coy, an open bottle is just tacky behavior.
pandabebe Posted August 10, 2004 Author #12 Share Posted August 10, 2004 I'll be the weird girl walking around w/ a Christmas paper wrapped bottle....hahahaha. Can you imagine that? But honestly, great suggestions. Will have to think about the feasibility of it and will probably attempt it. A flask is another good idea, but how ghetto would it look if I were to whip out my flask during formal night? So many things to worry about. NASH99 Posted August 10, 2004 #14 Share Posted August 10, 2004 You all missed the obvious. Smuggle it and carry it around in a evian bottle and you can sip away the entire trip. Bring a camera as you may not remember your cruise. ;) Steveo
pandabebe Posted August 10, 2004 Author #15 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Nash99 - very good idea!!! Thanks! Will be doing the Evian bottle idea. I'm amazed at how brilliant (or coy) every one here is...hahahaha!
coiran Posted August 10, 2004 #16 Share Posted August 10, 2004 They give you glasses and ice in your room - what you do with them is your business - We have had the room steward bring wine and rocks glasses for us - that way they are the same as used in the bars. As for bringing it to the dining room, I have seen people bring a bottle of wine/champagne to enjoy at diner, but never a bottle of anything else. Walking into the dining room with a glass of your drink of choice is perfectly fine.

However they don't carry Popov. Scott

So many things to worry about. Good question - I think if it is a "formal" sterling silver flask and matches your outfit you'll fit right in! lol :D :p :D If you're at the buffet and not in the dining room I guess your "casual" flask/bottle will suffice. (but make sure your shoes/bag match!!!) gopher's girl Posted August 10, 2004 #20 Share Posted August 10, 2004 I was thinking that I'll just bring my flask strapped to my thigh. I bet even that would shock the people at dinner who are wearing jeans! Or better yet - a camelback backpack with the plastic tube over my shoulder. I'll ask the rest of my table if they want a sip! Crowsie Posted August 10, 2004 #23 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Left over from his college days... My husband has one of those hardhats with beer can holders mounted on each side...2 flexible tubes attached so can just take a pull on the straws at will! Now...if I attach bow ties to the beer cans I think he'll be good to go for fomal night...
elliair Posted August 10, 2004 #24 Share Posted August 10, 2004 GG--toooo funny! The Dollar Store has the velvet bags for wine. I take a beach bag to the hot tub with my wine and plastic glasses and enjoy. We've taken a couple bottles with us and shared with others. We were confronted one-time on Carnival Pride (our last ever cruise with them), by security at the hot tub. They spotted the wine bottle even though we had it tucked away in the beach bag. After that, we poured the wine in our plastic water bottles. We take a couple bottles of wine to dinner with us already corked. We've never been charged a corkage fee. I agree a flask or a water bottle is appropriate to carry around. An open bottle of vodka is tacky. Crowsie--ROTFLMAO!
