Why has is the Crown Princess iternary so weird

In most ports the ship leaves between 2-3 PM. I accustomed to 5PM departures on all other iternaries that I have been on. Is it because most people have been at these ports so many times than they prefer more time at sea. My DW will be happy since she never leaves the ship because the tours are too early for her and she can't wait for the casino to open after we leave port.

Not just the Crown, the majority of Princess ships leave certain ports early :rolleyes: . I hate it too. The worst one is Aruba/Bonaire/Curacao, they are only 50 miles apart. Ships will leave one island to travel to one of the other islands in the early afternoon when it would only take a few hours to reach the other island. Sometimes when it would be great to stay late. I am sure it is cost effective. :confused:

Crown rotates her itinerary every two weeks visiting eleven ports (not counting the Home Port San Juan), ten of them different . In the two weeks, she leaves before 5pm only twice. Unfortunately, they're B2B ports, St Kitts and Grenada.

 

The best way to handle the situation is to book both weeks!:)

Where are you leaving from - NY? WHen the ship leaves from NY, it seems that itinerary leaves most of the islands early.

 

We did it out of San Juan and we were in port full days every day. We did the itinerary with Barbados.

It doesn't seem to be that bad for the New York embarkation:

 

Lv. New York: 5pm

Lv. Bermuda: 5pm

Lv. San Juan: 11pm

Lv. St. Thomas: 4pm

Lv. Grand Turk: 7pm

 

The only early departure is St. Thomas which is due to the fairly long haul to Grand Turk where arrival is 1pm the next day.

On our June 08 crusie on the CB that is taking the Crown's NYC Intinerary has a few early departures:

 

NYC 5:00pm

Grand Turk 2:00pm

San Juan 6:00pm

St. Thomas 3:00pm

Bermuda 5:00pm

 

The weird part is that the day after St. Thomas is a sea day. Not sure why we couldn't stay 'till 5:00.

 

But I am sick of the Eastern/Western itineraries so I'm not complaining! :D

The distance from St. Thomas to Bermuda is about 900 miles, thats probably why they leave early there even though it is a sea the next day, they need the extra time.

Lets put this in perspective for the St Thomas to Bermuda run...

 

Cruises that depart in South Florida will have a sea day between St Thomas and the embarkation/disembarkation port (Ft Lauderdale/Miami). If you draw a straight line west from Bermuda, you will come out somewhere between Savanah, Ga, and Charleston SC. The driving distance between Ft Lauderdale and Savanaha, is about 9 hours.

 

So if a ship needs to go the farther distance to bermuda instead of Ft Lauderdale it will take extra time than the normal day at sea.
