darleen1421 Posted May 13, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2007 Hi, is anyone live on Vision of the Seas? Is the water rough? How is the cruise going?
bailey211 Posted May 13, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 13, 2007 Just got back on Friday from Vision's first Alaska cruise of the season. The sea was lumpy on the way up back after that it was terrific. Had rain in Juneau but the rest of great weather. The staff on board were all very polite and helpful however I must confess to being dissappointed with the food. It seems that from the second formal night to the end they got their act together but prior to that the quality was average with several couples at our table having to send their entrees back as they were only warm at best. One of my salads that was comprised of slices of tomatoes and mozzarella was frozen. The waiter said the salad was supposed to be cold......but when I picked up one tomato slice and the whole works come up with it frozen together he apologized and took it back. I guess it was for the second sitting. Hrmmmm... There was also a frequent smell of sewage on decks 2 and 3. No idea where that was coming from. Non smoking? There was only one lounge on board that was non smoking only. The rest had cigarette smoke around regardless if it was in the 'non smoking section' or not. The casino was a fog of smoke. Lastly, there were lots and lots of people whose Sea Passes either were not activated properly during the initial check which required a visit to the Purser line up to get it re-activated yet again. This happened to three people in our party and continued a few times throughout the trip. I must say again that the staff were great but given my aforementioned experiences I'll be looking at Holland America again or giving Celebrity a try. darleen1421 Posted May 13, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted May 13, 2007 Wow, sorry you had mediocre food. You expect the best on these cruises. Frozen salad sure isn't fun. DD an SIL are on the cruise this week and wondered how the motion of the ship was since DD gets motion sickness. She is armed with several things to help though. Hope their food is better than you experienced. Too bad about the ship cards. That is a bummer. Hope they got it fixed by now.
nudave Posted May 13, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 13, 2007 HAHA, I read the subject of this thread...and had asked the question in my head, "Who's rich enough to live on a cruise ship? Why not just buy your own?" Then while the page was loading...I was thinking someone would have a story about gremlins or some weird animal on deck 1.... IvesGrandmama Posted May 13, 2007 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2007 Hi Will be on Vision next week and would love to know what type of clothes you took. Turtlenecks, sweat suits, sweaters, scarves, gloves, ear muffs? Did you take any capris and short sleeve blouses. Did most everyone dress up at night like on Caribbean cruises? Clothes are laid out and just wondering what to take. Thanks a million

Wow, my experience on the Vision was quite different. I was on the April 29th Vision sailing from LA to Vancouver and found the crew to be excellent as well as the food. Usually if the seapass get unactivated its because the card was placed close to another one with the magnetic stripes together, beside a camera or else in a purse or wallet that has a magnet as a clasp......not really much they can do except advise you to store it away from magnets, cameras, or other cards. Its too bad that you didn't enjoy your cruise but I personally enjoyed the Vision so much that I booked another cruise next month on the Vision. cellotaxi Posted May 14, 2007 #10 Share Posted May 14, 2007 I was also on the Vision on the 29th, and found the food to be very good. As to the others who thought that it was live on a ship thats what i thought too, but heres the irony, there is a guy that lives on it, he may go on a couple of other ships to get a variety, but he has benn on the vision over 85 times! And I thought the writer of this post knew him lol! :)
darleen1421 Posted May 15, 2007 Author #11 Share Posted May 15, 2007 Sorry I confused people with this post. It is live with a long i. I have seen lots of people posting that they are live on such and such a ship. Just wondered if anyone was on Cruise Critic while on board. Heard from DD today and she said they are having a wonderful time. A little queasy the first two days but not sick. She said food is very good especially the fish. Having fun at dinner with four other couples and they even all went to the show together last night. Sounds like they lucked out on table mates. bailey211 Posted May 16, 2007 #13 Share Posted May 16, 2007 The weather was great for the most part. Take a gortex/rain jacket, small umbrella just in case, warm hat, long pants, gloves but also take shorts, sandals etc as the ship is environmentally controlled and if the sun is out the solarium/pool and sun decks are quite warm. bailey211 Posted May 16, 2007 #14 Share Posted May 16, 2007 Our cruise was the first Alaska of the season so the boat left from Vancouver. We did dock at 66 I think in Seattle. The one just below Pike Place Market and beside the Edgewater Motel. Formal nites were Saturday and Wednesday.

bailey211 Posted May 16, 2007 #16 Share Posted May 16, 2007 FitzLA: Call it Caprese or tomatoes and mozzarella......it was a frozen block. The waiters at the serving station beside our table were chuckling over it while one was holding it in the air in one piece. :(

It was about Princess and it said they are cheaper then nursing homes and of course much better. I could do that! :)

Excellent point and thank you! I'd planned to leave the shorts at home, but will toss a pair in now, because I never thought of the concept of climate control around the pool. duh. warm, moist, humid and semi-trop? I can deal. thanx again...kat
Teejer Posted May 19, 2007 #19 Share Posted May 19, 2007 I just got back from the May 11th sailing on Vision. I am still in Seattle, but will be posting a review when I get back home this evening. Our trip was excellent. We had a little bit of rough seas on the way back, but the overall trip was incredible. We (my partner Mark and I) had a very different experience that some of the posters here. Teej
Cruiser Steph Posted May 20, 2007 #20 Share Posted May 20, 2007 Did most everyone dress up at night like on Caribbean cruises? Clothes are laid out and just wondering what to take. Thanks a million I noticed on formal nights, we saw the full range of options as usual. We love getting dressed up and find it part of the experience. But my daughter and I both noticed that all the other nights were more casual than when we were in the Caribbean. There also didn't really seem to be a difference between Smart Casual and Semi-formal nights in what other people were dressing. It seemed like many people wore the clothes they wore during the day to dinner unlike the Caribbean. Maybe since people were more clothed during the day due to the cooler temp, they felt comfortable wearing it to the dining room. We even saw in our section a couple different nights of men coming to the dining room with ball caps on, though all but one took them off at the table (only to reveal a hat ring in their hair). It didn't stop our family though, and we didn't feel out of place at all. We just wondered if the other cruisers maybe didn't get as much out of it by not 'getting ready for dinner'. All cruisers are different but it was a contrast to our 2 previous Caribbean cruises. Pack what you want to wear. It's your cruise, have a blast!! :o
pcur Posted May 20, 2007 #21 Share Posted May 20, 2007 Thank you for these posts! I just booked the VOS today for the Mexican Riviera in December. I've spent the last week helping THREE friends and family book cruises with my TA, and I got really, really jealous!!:D So, I booked her today. We were on her when she was new, and I love all the expansive windows. I'm really looking forward to her again.
