Lima - Review from recent visit

We spent several days in Lima as part of an Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) tour of Bolivia and Peru.

Lima is on the Pacific Coast. It is 30-45 minutes from the port (Callao). While there, we took three tours:

1. City tour. The main stop was at the Art, Architechture & History museum. This museum is worth a visit. Our guide took us thru, explaing the various exhibits. Most of the signs at the exhibits are only in Spanish. So a guide is helpful unless you are fluent in Spanish.

2. The other side of Lima. The main destination was the squatters community. It was interesting to see the conditions there, but all in all, it was not worth the money or time.

3. Golden Museum. This museum displays some gold (the Spanish looted most) and silver objects from the pre-Inca and Inca times. It also has a display of weapons and other instruments of war from independence (1821) to today. Again we had a guide take us thru and explain the exhibits which we mostly labeled only is Spanish. They also rent cassette players in several languages including English. This was a very good tour.
