Why did you choose an Owners Suite and why?...

Just curious as I am booking one on the Mariner and wonder if I am being too self indulgent...I work very very and wanted to really treat myself, having never been with RCCL before...any input on this beautiful suite please........

Have an Owner's suite booked for next year on the Liberty. I've worked hard all my life and deserve it! We only get to cruise once a year, and so, for that week, I can be spoiled-lol.:D

I've always had a Grand Suite in the past. On my upcoming Mariner cruise I decided on an Owner Suite (Center hump 1320) I don't think I could sail in anything but a suite. Plenty of room and not confined.

Just back today from her, "WOW" what a ship. 1320 was the best and I think I'll never book anything other than a hump OS. Enjoy.....

:p We had an owners suite on the AOS and it was the best room we have ever had and we have stayed in the best hotels in Hawaii.

Well, first of all OS's are awesome. That being said do you

really want to start at the top? Moses and I started our

cruise journey with an inside cabin. With each cruise we stepped up

a notch. Once we went to a nicer room we never went back.

We are now up to OS's and have dabbled in the RS's twice.

Only your pocketbook can answer your question. Personally if

this is your first suite experience I think you could start with a

junior suite. This will give you nice suite experience and also

room to move upward.

We chose Mariner OS 1320 for our cruise this October. It's only my DH and I in the room, but we are cruising with 4 other couples so we wanted the additional space for private get togethers. If it were just the two of us, we would have booked a GS.

1320 was OUR cabin on Mariner! We hate to share it but it is the BEST! Great location and absolutely gorgeous room. The only problem we had was the kids and the doorbell. They couldn't seem to resist it but everything else was fantastic. As for booking a JS first, I don't consider the JS a suite since it doesn't get all the perks of a true suite, just a little bigger room. Enjoy every minute of the OS, but be warned, it is very hard to go smaller next cruise. We are going to the JS this time and wish we had the $$$ to do the OS again.

I think when you move up little by little you really get to appreciate the extra room and additional storage space.

We started with a balcony - and moved up to jr. suite...and then GS. We will be staying in an OS in three weeks - can't wait to see it!!!!

We have an OS on Mariner in July. We are really looking forward to it. We have never had a suite before. We are most excited about the extra storage room, room for a meal in the room without having to set the trays on your lap, and room in the bathroom so that you can fit your entire body in the shower at the same time.

I agree, I also moved up the ranks so to speak, with CCL and Celebrity, but first experience with RCCL, must have that balcony and space...even tho this is just for me, I am indulging, as I work hard enough to feel I deserve it! LOL! Can't wait! any pics would be great! I have #1630.

Hello! Great thread....we are booked on Mariner OS #1330 on Aug 5th. We chose it because we have not cruised in 16 years, now have two boys 13 & 10 coming with us, and we just couldn't resist! Extra room, large balcony, concierge service were all part of the decision.

 

Our last (and first) cruise 16 years ago was our honeymoon cruise on Song of America and we had an inside room. Very small but we didn't mind!

 

Truly looking forward to this experience!

What is the capacity of people in an OS? Can a family of 5 book it (me,DH,& 3 kids - 11,9,6). Roughly what is the cost for this type of accomodation for 5?

It's probably not of much help to you but if you are lucky enough to splash out on an Owners Suite then the difference between NCL and RCI is immense. NCL provides impeccable service and amenities that leave RCI way behind.

Embarkation

NCL : usually greeted by the conceige dockside and then escorted to your suite by your butler

RCI : given a piece of paper that says priority and you are able to join the multitude of other guests who seem to have the same paper.

Suite

NCL : soda/water/three bottles of spirit/daily snacks/fresh flowers/fresh fruit/great balconies some with hot tub/internet access and pc/decoration is plush and lavish/great sound and TV systems/a butler who will get anything for you

RCI : one bottle of evian everything else chargeable/plate of fruit/cheese/brownies/no flowers/long but narrow balcony with overhang/two chairs ONE recliner/the square footage of RCI is bigger/decoration is acceptable not special/large tv that doubles as sound system with poor quality sound

Access to areas

NCL : access to private Courtyard and sundeck/conceige club/Cagneys for breakfast/and in suite dining FROM ANY RESTAURANT on the ship

RCI : access to conceige club which can also by used by Diamond level frequent sailors so more often that not is over crowded

Theatre

NCL : reserved private area

RCI : go find a seat!

Disembarkation this was much faster on RCI which we have always been pleased about.

These comparisons have been made sailing in an Owners Suite on Jewel and Navigator OTS, and Norwegian Dawn, Sun, Jewel and Pearl. Without question if you want to be really spoilt then NCL knows how to do it.

OK, I'm butting in slightly, as I've never cruised in an OS or similar, but I'm curious, for those who say once you cruise in an OS, there's no going back . . . Do you feel the same way about hotels, when you're doing land-based travel? Just curious, because I could see maybe splurging on a suite as a one-time thing, but I don't think I would want to be spoiled to the point of insisting on a suite. (It would make a cruise vacation much less affordable for me.) But I've splurged before on a fancy hotel w/ concierge lounge and all the five-star type perks. It was a nice treat, but not one I could afford to do routinely. It hasn't put me off more modest hotels, though, so I'm not sure splurging on a cruise cabin would spoil me, either.

Max in an OS is four per RCI.

 

I made the mistake of taking my wife on a cruise a couple of years ago in an OS and now she can't take anything less. Moving up to an RS on Liberty in 08. We'll see how that goes but the OS on Freedom was incredible. 600+ sf and plenty of storage. It makes lounging in the room very nice indeed. Breakfast at a table in our room every morning is a lot of fun.

 

BTW: Concerge lounge/service is a nice perk but wasn't (and isn't) a primary consideration when booking a suite.

Wow!!!! That is impressive. We sailed NCL with a mini-suite and were greeted at the dock and brought to our cabin. But that was it.

I admit it....I am intrigued. I don't love the NCL experience - but I did love the anytime dining and I love the suite perks!!!

We Are 1340. It is just me and the girls. Hope they don't keep you up. :eek: Just kidding they are usually quiet. There happens to be a few more kids that graduated this year on the same cruise. :D Less than a month now. We leave on the 5th. :cool:

How old are the girls? Ours are 12 and 15, my sisters girls are 14 and 17.... I hope we are not too loud for you:) I think they will be spending more time with kids their own ages then in our room:D
