Kenai Fjords Before SB Cruise?

Hi, all. I'm planning a HAL '08 cruise, and am thinking SB Glacier Discovery. Does it sound possible to fly in Friday night, do a Kenai fjords tour (independent) on Saturday, and take the train (either Sat night or Sun morning) to the ship for a Sunday cruise departure? There will be four of us, and we're looking at late August.

If you are sailing out of Seward, why don't you fly into Anch, catch the train the next morning and you will be in Seward for the 11:30 Kenai Fjords 6hr tour. Then you have Sat evening and Sun until ship leaves to see rest of Seward. Exit Glacier, Seavy dog kennel, sea life aquarium, and town.You could even rent a local car when you get back to run around in.

 

We have done it when we flew in, went to Denali for couple of days, then drove down to Seward for a day and night, then drive back to Anc to turn in car and catch the train or bus the next morning back to Seward to catch ship. First way is better if you have choice and are not leaving from Whittier.

You may want to look at renting a car and staying in Seward. It will depend on where the ship departs.

As already mentioned, you would want to take the Kenai fjord cruise just prior to getting on your cruise ship, since HAL sails out of Seward.

 

Best however, would be to add as many days as you possibly can. It is well worth the effort for all the fantastic touring available.

Thanks, all, for the advice. I'm glad to know this is doable. BQ, I agree with you--unfortunately we're limited by work schedules. We'll just have to do another trip!
