$1,000 or Free Suite Upgrade...your choice?

The very large cruise group that we travel with every February has a drawing for one lucky cabin...either $1,000 shipboard credit or an upgrade to a suite.

So I wondered...which would you choose if they chose you?

We're already booked for a balcony cabin on the Lido deck so the decision would be a tough one. The suite upgrade would be sweet (!) but so would $1,000 to spend in the gift shops and the bar...

So tell me your choice...suite or the money? And why.

The suite, as the upgrade cost is generally far more than $1,000.

My spending on a cruise is limited to specialty dining and good wine, along with a few martinis. Don't gamble, do excursions or spa as a rule. I would have to think of ways of spending 1,000 onboard and that means spending money on stuff I could care less about.

On most lines, suite perks are pretty terrific. Depends on the line.

Absolutely NO contest - the money!

I've had a suite and yes they are nice. But for $1,000 I could have every excursion, bar bill, photos, tux rental and change left over.

I honestly wouldn't hesitate for a moment. It would be the cash.

If you dont spend all the credit can you get a refund the last night or is it a use or lose it type of deal?

I would take th emoney--since i am not in a cabin all that much

how much differnce is the balconies on both.

You can always go to the casino and take out cash - that way you wouldn't end up with this situation. Even on cruise lines that charge a % to to this, you would end up w/ more than you started with!

As to original question, I would DEFINITELY take the money!

I might actually take the suite, depending on the line. I usually tend to purchase "memories" (ie, vacations, excursions, etc). more often than "things" (expensive clothes, purses, tv's, etc.)

I might take the experience of a suite over $1000 to blow in the gift shops for more things I don't need or didn't plan on buying, anyway. And I would feel like it was a waste if it were all spent at the bar.

However, it might be nice to have the $1000 to buy a really nice piece of jewelry onboard.

I'm torn. Can I take both??? :)

I'd like to know the valule of the suite upgrade. If it is considerably more than $1,000, I'd take the Suite (if I were not already booked in one.)

My guess is the cash prize is close in value to the price of the upgrade.

I'd have to go for the money and do a few spa treatments. Maybe a nice piece of jewelry, some makeup and skin care. I can certainly spend $1000 quickly and carry home a very small bag :p .

We're typically in a balcony cabin any more, a suite would be nice, but you're still going to the same place and eating in the same restaurant. Unless, of course, you dine en-suite :) .

Since my last S&S was 300.00 (for 2 people), and I had to work at it to get it up that high :) , and since it's unlikely that I will ever book a suite, I'd have to take the suite.

Even on land vacations, it's all about the room to me. I'll pretty much go anywhere if my accommodations are great!

Would love the money, and enjoy some of the things I couldn't otherwise.. SPA treatments, specialty dining, more shore excursions, more drinks, more shopping at the gift shop... sweeeeeet! :)

We can easily rack up 500 per week on our cruises, thats £'s of course so that would be $1000.

You do not say how long the cruise is, as most of ours are 13 to 16 nights then a suite may be good value. But for 7 nights it has to be the Money:D:D:D

Happy Cruising

i would take the board credit if i already had the balcony. a balcony is important to me, but it doesn't have to be a suite.

i'd spend the money on spa treatments and excursions. with two people, you quickly use up the 1000$ depending on the length of the cruise...

Heh-heh...it's funny to hear how this poll is just about split down the middle.

Yes, since we already have a lovely balcony cabin booked on the Lido deck of the Carnival Freedom for next Feb., I too would be tempted to take the $.

A suite would move us down 2 decks and I don't think I'd like that.

Head for the gift shop to buy something nice for myself and DH...

Have a really, really good time with our friends on excursions and in the bar. Maybe buy a nice bottle of liquor to have shipped home.

Last year, the winner (a veteran cruiser) took the money and stressed that she remain anonymous...gosh, I wonder why??!!!!

I'd not call it split down the middle!

18 would take the money

5 would go for the upgrade

A whole lot more of us would love the extra spending $$ :)
