I just booked the Extended Stay America on 17th St. in Ft Lauderdale for $114.99 as an on-line special. Current rate on phone to hotel is $149. This is for Jan. 11, 2008. Prices for hotels are very high on all the search engines I have used.

Can someone tell me about the shopping and restaurants in this area please? Is there somewhere close by to buy alcohol, pop and water?

We are sailing out of Miami and not sure yet whether we will be flying into Fort Lauderdale or Miami. I have already booked a cancellable hotel in Miami and was looking to do the same in Fort Lauderdale. If we fly into FLL, then this hotel is alot cheaper than what I have booked in Miami.

Yes, there are plenty of restaurants, grocery stores etc. in this area. The hotel is probably about 1/2 mile from a shopping center which includes a Publix for wine, pop, water and groceries. I think there is also a liquor store.

39August are you perhaps sailing on the 12th on the Grand Princess? My sister and I are. Would love to have you sign in on our roll call if this is the cruise you are taking. We are staying at the Mariott North on the 11th.

I also booked the Extended Stay on 17th. st for 1-25, at their regular AAA rate, as I think it is really a good bargain compared with other 17th st hotels.

It's the location, time of year (late Jan. high season) that makes the price go up. I keep checking their web site to see if they offer a special for the weekend of 1-25. But, for now, I have a res. that I can change. Priceline does not show this hotel as one of the hotels on their list.

We have stayed at the Amerisuites and it is close to several restaurants and a Publix. Room was fine and included continental breakfast and shuttle to cruiseport. Only downside was that there was a jam cruise group the night before and as of 2:00 pm. they were still not out of their rooms! So we had to wait until 6:00 to get into ours. The frontdesk did allow us to stow bags and leave but we couldn't check in until they actually had a room for us.

All in all, we would probably stay there again.

Hope this helps.
