Sort of cruise related - The Pasha Bulker salvage is under way, and it is moving

Recommended Posts

So the only berth at the new Nobbys beach cruise terminal has been cleared then? All good for the Sun (or is it the Star?) to visit soon ;)

Yes Sam, room for another. Yes it is the Star.

Seeing that you are connected to this ship, could you do us all a favour and advise the Captain to berth at Throsby 1 instead. Not sure we can handle this much excitement again for a while!;)

Cheers,

Southaussie100 - Only the left hand photo is Pasha Bulker.

The others are of a loaded bulk carrier running before a cyclone.

One of these was also posted after the WA cyclone last year & it was not the vessel it was supposed to be.

Anyone know if Pasha Bulker has started it's tow to Brisbane.

The Pasha Bulker was towed into Newcastle Harbour yesterday. I think they are having a good look at her, making running repairs to make her seaworthy, and then she will be going to Brisbane.

There was a fair crowd at the foreshore in Newcastle yesterday watching her come into port the correct way. :)

SouthAussie100 - Some info on those 3 photos you posted.

The ship is a special 35,00dwt bulk carrier built in Glasgow in 1983 as Selkirk Settler. Of unusual design to get through the St.Lawrence seaway locks for trade between the Great Lakes & Europe. The photos are astounding & were taken by the 2nd officer on a loaded voyage in the North Atlantic.

Attached are the vessel in normal conditions light ship & in the Clyde after being built.

Pasha Bulker has been patched and leaves Newcastle @ 11 am tomorrow morning. She will be towed from port by 5 tugs, and towed to Asia (probably Japan) by Supertug Koyo Maru for complete repairs. (by-passing Brisbane)

Pasha Bulker ran aground 65 years to the day that cannons at Fort Scratchley fired at Japanese midget subs during WW2. They will again be firing 4 shots for a Japanese vessel, but as a mark of frienship & wishing a safe voyage. Wish I did not have to work tomorrow, as it would be a nice spectacle from Cathedral Park.

Bon Voyage PB!
