I leave tomorrow on the Victory 4 night cruise to

Canada from NY- YEAH!!! I am so excited. :)

 

Here are my questions -

 

My DH wants to bring a bottle of wine, what is the best way to bring it on board? I would think you put it in your carry on bag but if someone has a better way I would love to hear it. What would be a good way to make sure it will not break?

 

How much actual cash do I need on board? I know you use your S&S card but aside from tips, what else do you NEED to pay for in cash? How much actual cash would you bring for a 4 night cruise?

 

Tomorrow can't come soon enough. I am off to pack.

Hi.

 

You will have a great time on your cruise. :D With regard to cash, you will only need it for the casino and any extra tips you decide to give. Everything else gets charged to your S&S card. It all depends on if you will be doing a lot of shopping in the ports and even then, most stores will take credit cards.

 

I can't answer about the wine, but I'm sure another poster will chime in here.

Hi............did you sign up on the Roll Call board? There are several of us who have been writing to each other...........

I can't tell you about wine, but once my husband and I packed the spirit of our choice.......we wrapped them in bubble wrap and them wrapped clothing around it and put it in our carry on.........

As for money, it depends on how many people you are with.........tips, I think the casino.........and anything when you get off in Canada........

Carnival adds a base cost of 10 dollars a day towards tips. so if leaving an additional tip remember to factor the base tip in

To the OP- you need $1s to tip the porters who take your luggage.

a buck a bag. money for the cab driver taking you to the pier.

You will need $1s to tip room service (tips when service is rendered as you might not have the same delivery person twice)

Carnivals policy says a fine wine may be brought on board at ti me of embarkation and there is a 10.00 corkage fee if consumed in the dinning room. We always take 2 large bottled each and place them in our carry on. (at the cruise port not at the airport) They do ask what is in here, I say wine. We go on our way. Last time we have 9 people each had 2 bottles, they showed up on the x-ray. I said, we all have two bottles of wine like these and opened my bag. They waived eveyone else through.

 

We like a glass before dinner as we are getting dressed and I like a wine spritzer so we pack some diet 7 in the checked baggage. This Alaska trip wife requested bubbly. :)

We thought we were prepared and ran out of $1 bills. If you can, bring at least 30 of them!

 

Please post a review when you return. I would love to hear about this particular cruise, weather, water, etc.

Actually now it looks like the sun is coming out. So hopefully by the time sailaway comes you will have bright sunshine!!!!! :D

Carnival allows One bottle of wine per adult. In May on the Miracle, I just put it into my carry on. They did open my bag at screening to see it was wine and not hard liquor.

 

The porters in NY expect about $2-$3 per bag so tip accordingly at embark and debark.

We take a roll around with some extra bottled water, pepsi and wine and champange. Never had any problems....except lifting it up for the xray. Have a wonderful time and do let us know how you liked the cruise.

Tips....I try to have a few $2 bills for something extra special. The crew seems to think they are lucky.

it will have to be in your checked luggage since you cant carry any liquid through the security. Pack good-- insulated with plastic bags and towels.

(this is what people that cruise to st thomas must do in order to get their stuff home.

We're going on the Elation in August, and I'm curious about the policy on wine, it seems to change, often. :) So, is each adult allowed to take ONE or TWO bottles of wine on board? And is it best to carry it on, or just put it in our checked luggage?

 

My husband would love tips on on smuggling the hard stuff on, but no one here would know how to do that . . .;)

Right before we boarded the Elation on 6/25, I read where someone had their 2nd bottle of wine taken away at the port on the cruise right before ours. Our daughter still took 2 bottles and no one said a word. Guess it depends on who is checking your stuff. Don't think I'd try and get more than 2 past them though.

I have not had problems with 3-4 bottles of wine/champagne. We take them right on board with us in a roll around.

I have used my contact lense solution bottles for the other "stuff". They seal really well and can go into zip lock bags in luggage. If you don't do contacts ask around I bet someone you know has several of these empty bottles. Snip the tip off a little lower so you won't be there all day trying to get enough out to taste. I have also thought about syrup bottles because they seal well also.

You will figure something out.

I don't know about flying.....we are in FL and can drive or take bus.

A $5 bill usually gets our luggage to our room with no issues we usually have 3 bags between us (each one regular and one hanging bag) makes sure that wrapped bottle gets to my room. The porters are very happy to get a little extra ad they seem to work very hard with all that luggage...
