Canada/New England Cruise

In your opinion, when's the best time to book this cruise to take advantage of fall colors-late Sept. or early Oct? Late Oct. is probably past peak, right? And, what side of ship has best views? Thanks in advance.

In the Massachusetts area, early to mid-October is definitely the best. There is a reason Columbus Day is the most popular weekend in this area. However, further north, it will be peaking earlier, like late September. If it was me, I would book very early October to try to get the best of all worlds. And, of course, you realize every year is a bit different depending on the weather.

Unfortunately Alaska has a lconsiderable amount of evergreen fir trees. There isn't that much color, similar to the Seattle area. While Seattle has trees that were planted by homeowners which do color, the vast countryside don't. If you wished to see color, head for New England and Canada on the east side of both countries.

Seattle is know as the Evergreen City as one of its nicknames. Another nickname is the Emerald City. Green, green, green.....

......taking the Mt. Washington train up to New Hampshire.......

I think some clarification is in needed here. What is done on the tour is that you are bused to the base of Mt. Washington, NH, where you will board the Mt. Washington Cog Railway for a ride to the top of Mt Washington.

Mount Washington is the highest peak in the northeastern U.S. with an elavation of 6,288 feet.

Here is the link for the cog railway: http://www.thecog.com/index.php

For Mt Washington: http://www.mountwashington.com/

I been to the top by the auto road - a very scenic trip.

If you take the tour, be prepared for the weather. Read the extremes of the weather here: http://www.mountwashington.com/weather/index.html
