Shipboard Credits

I have read that Celebrity has flat price booking--agents are not allowed to offer discounts on cruise prices. But what about shipboard credits?

 

One online travel agent told me that Celebrity does not allow agents to give more than $50 per cabin shipboard credits as an incentive. Can anyone verify this? Or was this an attempt to justify why he couldn't match another agent's offer.

I don't know what Celebrity allows or doesn't allow. I can tell you that our TA routinely gives an onboard credit as part of her quotation for our Celebrity cruises. And it exceeds $50. Our recent 12 night Med cruise aboard Millennium came with a $325 on board credit bon voyage gift from our TA.

Our TA gave us the $25 credit for the casino!

 

We would not use the casino and $25 each is hardly worth the bother. But $50 for 'free' with a chance to make it $60 is better than nothing.:D

 

Now with P&O and a new ship we got a staggering $660 each which, with a 5% discount, gave us almost $700 each or over $4000 for our party of 6. Now that is what I call OBC.

You can take your casino credit to the casino and they will give you cash to spend on whatever you wish. Of course they hope you will pop the money in the slot machines, but it is yours to do with as you wish.

A web TA (the one that corresponds only via email) quotes their shipboard credit "discount" in a table on their website. The range is way beyond $50. Our TA usually offers somewhat less than those in that table, but comes close to matching when I offer the comparison.
