kiwigirl Posted August 10, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2007 Not much news yet......I can't believe we were just there 1 month ago. So sad. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20205308/ I just did a quick search and there is more information from New Zealand and Australian news sites. Right now it doesn't look like there are any survivors.

Julia’s Journey’s Posted August 10, 2007 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2007 Sandra Rimud from Air Traffic Services in Tahiti said the plane went down at about noon local time (0800 AEST) today. "We don't know [why it crashed]. We had good weather. The pilot maybe didn't see so good," she said.
bugsy1968 Posted August 10, 2007 #6 Share Posted August 10, 2007 While there is no doubt that this is tragic news, and of course it is extremely sad and scary - Why is this being posted here?
kiwigirl Posted August 10, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted August 10, 2007 My first thought was to post it here as I know that the Tahitian Princess is one of only 2 ships in the area and that it's an extremely popular cruise. Many people do pre or post-cruise stays as well and Moorea is very well known for those stays. Sorry if this is not appropriate. The moderators are welcome to move it or remove it. CassCruise Posted August 10, 2007 #8 Share Posted August 10, 2007 Thanks kiwigirl - I for one was interested as we are/were considering doing a Princess day excursion from Papeete to Moreea which includes this type of flight..... very sad
ECCruise Posted August 10, 2007 #9 Share Posted August 10, 2007 I guess it is being posted here since virtually all southern trans-Pacific repo cruises offer this as a shore excursion. You take the ferry to Moorea, spend the day there touring and at a motu and then return to Papeete via Air Moorea, the seven minute flight that crashed. We did this in May of this year. Air Moorea is aligned with Air Tahiti Nui and appears to have had a perfect safety record up to this point. The flight is amazingly short...from the time the plane arrived at the "gate" until we were airborne was less than 5 minutes...that included disembarking passengers, loading our group and making the turn around and out to the runway. It is a beautiful flight over the lagoon and the open sea to Tahiti. Our sympathies to those lost.
