westerfiek Posted August 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 25, 2007 Planning a cruise from San Juan in Feb 07. How long does it take to disembark and catch a taxi to the airport? I am looking at return flight times now and would like to get an early flight out. :)
parody Posted August 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 25, 2007 Planning a cruise from San Juan in Feb 07. Hopefully, you mean Feb 08! Like Carnival, most suggest booking anything after 12 noon, although depending on your tolerance for risk, some might go as early as 10:30 AM. Sailgal05 Posted August 25, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 25, 2007 I'm interested in this same question as we're going in January and have our tickets already, 10:15 am departure. We're traveling on RCCL and was told by the cruiseline that if we use the early-express off by carrying our own bags, we should make our flight. If we miss the early flight and have to wait until late afternoon, at least we're on the way back from vacation and should be relaxed;no problems mon mindset.
CPT Trips Posted August 25, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2007 We really enjoy San Juan and book a late departure so we can roam the town after getting off the boat. Also, the airport seems much less hectic later in the day when most of the departing cruisers have already left. The Airport is hardly equiped to handle the volumes they get on cruise days. Between the agricultural inspection and TSA it can be a real pain . . .
OVgirl Posted August 25, 2007 #5 Share Posted August 25, 2007 Last February my brother booked his flights through Celebrity. They booked him on a 9:50am flight with their transfers and he made it with no problems. I guess if you are booking on your own, you probably don't want to take any chances. Best not to book before noon. Happy sailing!
katiebug the travel girl Posted August 25, 2007 #6 Share Posted August 25, 2007 We were just there in March. The disembarkation process runs smoothly. There are two ports for cruise ships. One is in old town. It may take a little longer (about 20 minutes or more) to get to the airport. The other terminal is across the harbor (celebrity cruises out of there) and is a bit smoother traveling to the airport (about 15 minutes). Keep in mind the prime commute times. Taxis are plentiful in both places.
