bhcruise Posted September 28, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2007 We are taking our 2 children (10 months and 4 years) on a 14 night Med cruise in Nov. on Celebrity. My concern is the amount of clothing that we will have to bring. Does anyone have any experience with the laundry service, or another way to get around this. Also, any ideas of how many outfits i really need to bring for the kids. Thanks for your help.
sas80 Posted September 28, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2007 If it were me, I would bring as little clothing as possible, for everyone, and a travel size bottle of laundry detergent. For the bigger things, I would just "splurge" and have the ship do my laundry as needed. One pair of denim shorts can be worn with many shirts! If you have one denim, and one khaki pair of shorts, and two tops, you have 4 outfits!
Julienatul Posted September 28, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 28, 2007 On our last cruise I did the laundry on board just so I woudnt come back with a suitcase full of dirty clothes. On most ships there are coin laundry facilities. I think it was $1.50 wash and $1.50 dry. They didnt have any detergent though, so bring your own. You can get change from the casino if needed. SelectSys Posted September 29, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2007 ... 14 night Med cruise in Nov. on Celebrity ... I don't believe that Celebrity has self service laundry facilities. This is certainly true on their sister line Royal Caribbean. We were on a 14 day trip on Royal Caribbean this summer and just packed heavy. The lack of self-service laundry is one of my few complaints with RCI.
mpb43 Posted September 29, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 29, 2007 bhcruise, I had the same question before our first cruise to the Med this past July. We ended up packing much heavier than usual (we've traveled a lot, just new to cruising). Even so, by mid-week, I was hand washing a few items in the sink. Part of the reason was the the Med was really hot in July and my kids went through 3 shirts a day. I know you may not have that issue in November. Handwashed items took forever to dry and the ship frowns on pax hanging anything on the balcony. I've decided that next cruise I will just factor the cost of using the shipboard laundry services into our trip expense. Especially embarking from Venice as we did, the extra suitcases were very inconvenient. Venice is not luggage-friendly. By the way, my youngest was 4 on our cruise and he had a fabulous time. Enjoy your trip!
mjmalino Posted October 1, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 1, 2007 ON our cruise in June we sent some things out to be laundered, dry clean only pants and such, but then we did a couple loads in the coin-ops. On the Coral Princess it cost us 1.50 to wash, 1.50 to dry, 1.00 for soap and 1.00 for a dryer sheet (which had to sheets in it).
Cruisin' Chick Posted October 1, 2007 #7 Share Posted October 1, 2007 ON our cruise in June we sent some things out to be laundered, dry clean only pants and such, but then we did a couple loads in the coin-ops. On the Coral Princess it cost us 1.50 to wash, 1.50 to dry, 1.00 for soap and 1.00 for a dryer sheet (which had to sheets in it). The OP will be on Celebrity, which doesn't have self-service laundries. Neither does RC. A major reason why we probably wouldn't do a cruise longer than say 5 days on one of those lines as my hubby likes to keep down the luggage. And we found it difficult to dry items we washed in the sink...it seems to be too humid in the cabins.
