ChaCha54 Posted October 5, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 5, 2007 Does anyone stay onboard on port days and are the spa, fitness center and dining rooms open?
Grandpaul Posted October 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 5, 2007 Yes, yes, yes, and yes. I stay on the ship in several ports but I won't mention the names because when I do some people get upset. You almost have the ship to yourself which is really nice.
ChaCha54 Posted October 5, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted October 5, 2007 Thanks Grandpaul, we will be cruising over New Year's and we thought we might like to lay low on New Year's Day.
tomk3212 Posted October 5, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 5, 2007 Does anyone stay onboard on port days and are the spa, fitness center and dining rooms open? ChaCha, We always stay aboard in Port Canaveral as we've done the Disney/Universal-thang more times than we care to think about.;) It is absolutely WONDERFUL as you basically have the ship to yourselves and everything is still open. We had lunch in Windows on the Spirit at 12:30 & I don't think there were 20 other people in the restaurant. Hey Grandpaul, is this the port you won't mention? Have a great cruise! howard6933 Posted October 5, 2007 #5 Share Posted October 5, 2007 We've stayed on the ship on port days many times. It's nice and quiet on board, there are plenty of chairs by the pool, and you feel as if you "own" the ship. We were recently on a ship that closed the main restaurant on port days and you had to have lunch in the cafeteria. I did not like this and made a note of it on my comment sheet. But "what do I know, I'm just the 800 pound gorilla in the room".
cruizinwithkids Posted October 5, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 5, 2007 I did the Florida and Bahamas Dawn cruise last November. I didn't get off the ship. DH got off in the Bahamas so he could buy a Rolex.

Cuizer2 Posted October 6, 2007 #8 Share Posted October 6, 2007 Does anyone stay onboard on port days and are the spa, fitness center and dining rooms open? Good question, but what about the other side. Does anyone stay on board on starboard day?
Cosmopolitan Posted October 6, 2007 #9 Share Posted October 6, 2007 Does anyone stay onboard on port days and are the spa, fitness center and dining rooms open? Not sure what ship you are sailing? On the Dawn and Jewel normally ONE main dining room is open plus the buffet and Blue Lagoon. On the Dawn and Jewel, if it is the day of the evening of the Chocoholic buffet, the main dining room will be closed. Hope that makes sense;) Spa should run "specials" for port days...watch your daily for the prices. Gift shop and casino are closed while in port. We also enjoy those port days "on the ship":)
Grandpaul Posted October 6, 2007 #10 Share Posted October 6, 2007 Good question, but what about the other side. Does anyone stay on board on starboard day? It would be the right thing to do.

howard6933 Posted October 6, 2007 #12 Share Posted October 6, 2007 Not Port Canaveral. I grew up watching the space program so any chance I get to see the Apollo Center at kennedy I go to it. Howard. What ship were you on that closed the dining room? Actually, the ship that we were on was NOT an NCL ship, it was the Carnival Legend just two weeks ago. After many, many cruises, that's the first time we have encountered a closed main restaurant on port days. I don't mind using the cafeteria for breakfast since I'm not a big morning eater. But I DO like to have sit-down service for lunch and dinner. ;)
Grandpaul Posted October 6, 2007 #13 Share Posted October 6, 2007 I've never seen that either. Being a cruise in October maybe the ship wasn't too filled. Hey, as long as we can get food.
