casino secrets

It IS random, folks.

The machines don't know what day of the cruise it is!

My first cruise, I was playing a machine (my first time ever in a casino). I was alternating 1 quarter, then 2 quarters. Naturally, I hit on a 1 quarter pull.

Won $500, whereas I would've won $2,000 had it hit when I put in the 2 quarters. Still, that $500 nearly paid for my cruise (this was April, 2001)! :p

I've been trying to win ever since and I'm sure I've lost more than my winnings from that night!

It is random.

I'm going to get up my nerve and play some blackjack this time.

There ARE no secrets to win on the slots.

A few people win big. 99+ percent of the people who play the slots consistently lose money. If you keep playing, you will lose eventually lose all the money you are playing with.

100% Guaranteed Strategy for Success:

(1) Do not plan on winning; you won't win so why end up disappointed.

(2) Assume that you are playing strictly for entertainment and recreation, just for the hell of it.

(3) Determine in advance how much that entertainment is worth.

(4) Start with that amount of money. Play until that money is gone.

(5) Then do something else on the ship.

Guaranteed!

There is absolutely NO such thing as a machine tightening up. They do not sneak around in the middle of the night and tighten the machines up, nor do they set the machines to pay out better the first days, etc. Slot machines are driven bt a random number generator. That machine has absolutely no idea what it did last pull and does not know what it will do next pull. People always tend to say a certain machine is hot and want to play it. Or, they may say another one is due...whatever. Supertstions, hunches and imaginations run rampant in the world of slot machine players...

Some years ago, the casinos got into trouble because they had rigged the electronic slots to show ALMOST-wins a larger than randon percent of the time, just to tease the gamblers into playing more, More, MORE!

(Not the ship casinos... Vegas.)

I seem to win when I kept changing the way I "fed" the machine. I'd use my sail and sign and when I would win I would let it ride. Then I would use cash and hit the pay out button. Then switch it up. Maybe I confused the machine!!! LOL!!! Seemed to win more that way. It was ALOT of fun!! I kept one token and carry it with me all the time in my purse!!!

Although your strategy sounds like fun I'm sure that it all boiled down to pure luck... You can't 'trick' or confuse the machines. I wish you could!

Glad you had a great time and your token is a neat reminder of your time on the ship.

Way to go!

Really hmmm that may be so but money management helps as well knowing odds etc as I said I have never lost on a cruise so call it luck if you want but I do not believe in luck. I am also willing to bet I wont lose on this one either

If there were secrets, we'd all be rich, hahaha. On a serious note, the only secret which really isn't a secret is to set a price before you walk into the casino, and only have that much cash on you when you enter. Leave all credit cards, lanyards, etc in your room.

Once you are out of the cash you walked in there with, game over.

Then why not retire and just play the slots??? Since you cant lose while cruising.

Casino operators love people that think they "know something" about slots...it is entirely random....that is an absolute fact. If ytou were to sit a chimpanzee down with $20, it would stand every bit as much of a chance as you. PLease tell me how "knowing odds" of slots is going to help you win at slots...If you do not believe in luck, please share what it is that makes you win. Any time I ever won on a slot machine it never had a darn thing to do with any skill. People win with sill, luck or a combination of both. If you say you do not believe in luck AND you state that you will undoubtedly win...that means you have a skill of some sort at slots.

uh, okay.

Here you go. some good reading. Lots of info and I suggest skimming it, but this will show you that everything that happens with a slot machine is random. Any "skill" that you have is imagined.

From Wikipedia (and other sources):

"Some professional gamblers observe that the RNG does not actually generate random numbers. Indeed, all RNG (also called Pseudorandom Number Generators or PRNGs) will eventually repeat their number sequence."

and:

"Slot machines are typically programmed to pay out as winnings between 82 to 98 percent of the money that is wagered by players. This is known as the "theoretical payout percentage". The minimum theoretical payout percentage varies among jurisdictions and is typically established by law or regulation."

and:

"Because the reel display of modern slot machines is controlled by computer software, it is possible to make the slot machine frequently display combinations that are close to winning combinations."

and:

"In 2006, the Nevada Gaming Commission began working with Las Vegas casinos on technology that would allow the casino's slot manager to change the game, the odds, and the payouts remotely via a computer."

I have played slots only a certain machine though. It seems when the ship leaves it pays well, going to the ports etc. After the ship turns for home it seems the machines tighten up for the most part. Just my opinion and I only play one certain machine. Ive paid for two cruises with this as well.

Since I won't be on the same cruise with you, please share your secret as to which machine is your favorite. :)

Winning at slots is as simple as 1, 2, 3

1. Take $500 and put in in an envelope marked "Casino winnings" and place it in the in room safe on the first day of the cruise.

2. Stay out of the casino the entire cruise.

3. On the last day of the cruise withdraw your "casino winnings" from the room safe.

This is the only time tested method that will really work.

Note, amounts will vary depending on your tollerance for risk.

Dan,

From the "Technical Standards for Gaming Devices" regulation 14, of the Regulations of the Nevada Gaming Commission and State Gaming Control Board"

http://gaming.nv.gov/stats_regs.htm#stats

Section 2 references payback percentage:

2.010 Changes to payout percentage.

1. The theoretical payback percentage of a gaming device must not be capable of being changed without making a hardware or software change in the device except as provided for in Technical Standard 1. For purposes of this standard, the addition of an attendant-paid bonus, a progressive jackpot, or a change in rate of progression of an existing progressive jackpot is not considered to be a change in the theoretical payback of the gaming device.

2. Notwithstanding subsection 1, draw poker type gaming devices may have switch selectable or menu selectable top award values so long as the selectable range does not alter the payback percentage of the device by more than 1 percent with typical field play.

(Adopted: 9/89. Amended: 11/17/05.)

There are numerous references to software changes (remote and local) throughout the Technical Standards document. The RNG cannot be altered, but apparently the payout odds are manipulated by revising winning combinations.

Regards,

Leon

For me, the best way to at least stay close to even is to play like this.

I know alot of people like the machines that actually pay out in coins. I did too untill my DW showed me a different way to play the slots.

First of all: like everyone says- Play the Max amount each turn.

Second, find a machine that pays out with paper tickets, This doesn't increase your odds but it does make it easier to keep track if you win.

Thirdly, if you want to play $100, break it down to $20 bills. Play your first twenty. Possibly at some point you will be ahead. To me $5 over the original $20 is enough for me. I then cash out, put the ticket in my wallet and put in another $20. Then I play it the same way. If I'm not greedy, I usually come out ahead. Disipline is the key-That and luck of course. Then ther's always a chance on winning the top amount. Good luck to you all.

Another thing to do if you like to play along time withought spending an arm and a leg is find a three coin 5 cent machine. With $20 you will be praying to lose after a while. Have fun.

I would question the "everone says play max amount each turn". If you look at the payout table, usually the only place where you get more is if you hit one of the very few jackpot combinations. Otherwise, if you put 3 coins in, you get 3 times the payout.

As I see it, it depends upon whether you want to play longer or win more on the unlikely chance that you hit the jackpot. If you play 1 coin, you can play for 3 times longer. If you are playing 1 coin and hit the jackpot, you will kick yourself.

You make the choice. Either way, in the end the house wins.
