Hotel - Port of Tampa

Bob,

Check the Gulf Coast Departures board. They should have info. I made my res based on some great information on FLL.

BTW, there was a note that Cruise Critic is changing the Departures board and breaking out Florida alone, since so many cruises sail from FL.

The only area to avoid (according to Ken who lives there) is the Busch Gardens area. It has become unsafe.

If you are flying in, you will find that the Westshore hotels (near the airport) have a free shuttle from the airport but not to the port.

Hotels at the port, have free shuttle to the port but not from the airport.

Count on paying $22 for a taxi of 3 from the airport to the port.

We stayed at the Doubletree airport hotel. It has free shuttle to/from the airport, and to/from the port. When we returned from the cruise, we called them and they came to pick us up from the port, to the airport. No extra charge. We gave the driver a tip.

We liked Chase Suites. They have a free shuttle from airport to hotel; hotel to cruise terminal; and cruise terminal to airport after the cruise. Nice hotel and nice continental breakfast.

Another vote for Chase Suites and they also took us shopping the night before to pick up a few last minute items. We slept 5 people comfortably in the suite also (2 king beds and sleeper sofa).

We will also give a vote to Chase Suites. We stayed there two weeks ago and they are extremely nice. The continental breakfast is really good. Ask for a waterfront room and you will overlook the bay. They also offer a parking package if you drive in where they will keep your car and shuttle you to and from the port. We did not do this option but they mentioned it to us when we checked in.

Where does everyone stay in Tampa the night before their sailing? Any suggestions?

Here's a suggestion outside of the normal could be anywhere cookie cutter hotel/motel. Don Vicente de Ybor Historic Inn. http://www.donvicenteinn.com/

It's a really neat place and really close to the port. There is a lot to do and see in walking distance, including theaters, restaurants and clubs.

Marriott Waterside is a 10 minute walk to the Port and is safe to navigate at night. Great location and there is alot to to with the Florida Aquarium, Ice Palace and also some very good resteraunts.

I second that!! Very nce hotel....great staff.....food was decent...service in the sports bar (and it was slow) could have been better but gorgeous property right in the midst of the action...and you CAN see towards the pier depending on where your room is located.......I would go back in a second!

  • 2 months later...

We plan on driving to/from Tampa, so we don't need to worry about shuttles. We'd like to be able to see the Bay from the hotel, though. Also, we're a family of five, so I'm already leaning toward a suite hotel for the extra space, but either way, the room will be bigger than our Inspiration cabins. :p
