Does Vancouver airport still charge $20 each for airport fee?

Recommended Posts

We did a repositioning cruise a few years ago that ended in Vancouver. We were funnelled into a line and charged $20 each by the airport.

Do they still do this? Is it only for departures? Or do the passengers arriving also have to pay this?

Thanks for the info.

Like most of the airports in Canada, the airport is leased to a not-for-profit organization. They therefore need to ensure that the airport is self-supporting. Most airports originally instituted a fee called the AIF (Airport Improvement Fee) that they collected manually. But in the last few years have managed agreements with the airlines in which the fee is simply collected on the airplane ticket and no longer needs to be manually collected.

The current fee is $5 for flights to BC and the Yukon and $15 for all other flights.
