Cheryl H Posted November 5, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 5, 2007 We did a repositioning cruise a few years ago that ended in Vancouver. We were funnelled into a line and charged $20 each by the airport. Do they still do this? Is it only for departures? Or do the passengers arriving also have to pay this? Thanks for the info. Rare Cruise Junky Posted November 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 5, 2007 You still pay it, but it's buried in your ticket price. No lines or extra fees to pay at the airport.
Ephraim Posted November 5, 2007 #3 Share Posted November 5, 2007 Like most of the airports in Canada, the airport is leased to a not-for-profit organization. They therefore need to ensure that the airport is self-supporting. Most airports originally instituted a fee called the AIF (Airport Improvement Fee) that they collected manually. But in the last few years have managed agreements with the airlines in which the fee is simply collected on the airplane ticket and no longer needs to be manually collected. The current fee is $5 for flights to BC and the Yukon and $15 for all other flights.
Cheryl H Posted November 5, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted November 5, 2007 Great news. I don't mind paying it, but I didn't like the lengthy line to wait in. Thanks very much.
Rare Coral Posted November 6, 2007 #5 Share Posted November 6, 2007 I agree - it is easier as the fee is now included in the price of plane tickets.
