Mary's in Barbados, today!

Pepperpot is really a Guyanese dish,

and is not often to be found here on this island

although it does pop up from time to time.

 

oh you just got lucky..

The Wife informs me that pepperpot is regularly available at Atlantis Hotel,

over on our scenic East Coast.

Come to think of it, this charming old hotel is probably your best bet

if it's local cuisine you're seeking.

It's one of the very few places where you'll find pumpkin fritters(yummy!)

and spinach balls.

 

They also have a good source of fresh fish

since the boats moor right in front the hotel.

 

Their desserts are also quite local and very nice:

coconut pie and Rum Cake(hope you're not driving back!)

Temperatures: in the upper 80s.

 

You mean drive the ship? Hey, that sounds like fun! :p

 

We have a simple plan because we know we can't go everywhere in a few hours. Snorkel, swim a little in the morning via tour and get dumped back near the dock. Find a nice local place nearby to eat some lunch, taste-test some Banks beer. Watching some cricket would be great but you can't do that in a few hours, either!

 

Oh, and regarding Pepperpot--I was doing some reading yesterday and whomever wrote the story said they were eating it in Bridgetown near the water. So does that mean maybe they ate their Rum Cake first? ;)

Yes, they definitely need more system resources.

I'd imagine the demand is HUGE - it bogs down every 10 mins. or so.

 

PS: I went to the Barbados section of CC via your link--thank you. Best thing so far is finally a decent map! And I, too, promise to wave to the policeman at the gatehouse. ;)

Queen Mary 2 was back in Barbados on Saturday, December 15th.

I took a few photos of her as she departed just after sunset.

For those of you who appreciate the shape of lovely ladies

-I'm talking about mature liners here -not egg boxes-

a lovely little ship named Saga Rose sailed into Barbados on Sunday morning

and it was my privilege to capture her beauty!

 

Launched in 1965, she has classic good looks

and reminds me of the way they used to be

with SS UNITED STATES springing to mind for some reason?

 

 

I thought you might like to see her

and hope you'll respond with your comments

as to which of the classic liners of the '50s and '60s

she most looks like.
