Hoya Posted November 28, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 28, 2007 This is our first visit on this island and we gonna spend the whole day there and it should be nice to rent a car. Does anyone know if there are any car rentals in walking distance from the pier? Thank´s in advance! Hoya

alment Posted December 9, 2007 #3 Share Posted December 9, 2007 We will be there the next week. From what I have read, the closest location for car rental would be the airport and then Gosier. A cab is about $30 USD one way.
alment Posted December 24, 2007 #4 Share Posted December 24, 2007 Just back. Ended up taking a local bus to Gosier to pick up car. Was less than $5 for two people and about 15 minutes. Retunred car at airport and quick cab ride back to cruise terminal. Great island to visit by car.
Aplmac Posted December 24, 2007 #5 Share Posted December 24, 2007 What I like about Guadeloupe is that it's a dual-island, butterfly-shaped basically.. two very different islands joined at the waist by a small isthmus of land where you go over a bridge. The Western island is BasseTerre, so obviously volcanic, tall....with rain forests and waterfalls and the Eastern island Grande Terre is almost flat, limestone geology, not like the other half.. and so you get two islands for the price of one. Guadeloupe also has a European flavour to it since the language is French and the Currency is the Euro. Much bigger than the other 'sprinkle' of Caribbean islands you really need a few days to do the whole thing.
