Empress Of The Seas Questions

Although she's leaving the fleet next year, thought I'd start a thread about the Empress.

To get things started, I have a question.

Does the Empress OTS have an ATM?

All previous ships I've sailed on have had one in or near the casino. Just not sure about the Empress.

Thanx!

Yes, all cabins have safes.

I am not talking about Suites above JS's in the below comments.

No mini refrigerators, just ice buckets, warm soda, bottled water, and no nibbles.

JS's do not have bath tubs, just showers.

No lotions, just shampoo attached to the shower walls and bar soap. ;)

One door to the balcony on the JS's Deck 9, not a slider, and it does not stay open.

It will take off your fingers. Bring a bungee cord to attach to the rail if you plan on keeping it open.

You can not control your air conditioner.

Any other questions? :)

I have sailed her twice and just got off her on the 16th.

yes--atm on the lobby close to the guest relations desk.

yes - safes in all staterooms....

quite a nice ship.....although small it does not feel that way.

It has a portofino which is real nice, good coffee bar, small but nice casino...

I'm kind of bummed it is being taken out of the fleet.

We will be on the Empress soon. Do all cabins have safes?

Our cabin did NOT have a safe. We asked our steward if we could get one and he said he would check into it. We never did get one so I'm assuming there were no more available.

I read somewhere, either on RCI website or in my documents, that the Empress has safes in *some* cabins. But that at the reception desk they have safes free of charge. Probably more like a safe deposit box.

Their employees just told us all cabins had been given the safes since we sailed her in Dec of 2004. Ours was in the closet both times.

We had seen the safes in the hallways ready to go in during our cruise in 2004.

We can just say this: we sailed Empress from Philly to Bermuda in October. This was our 3rd cruise on her. She is an older, smaller ship. She has no extra bells or whistles. Expect just that.

However, her staff and crew are excellent. CD Warren and C&A LA Emily were outstanding and always available to answer questions. Captain Todal was very cool.

We had a JS, but no tub, no fridge, no walk in closet. But, we knew all that when we booked Empress.

Sorry to sea her go.

I think that I forgot to mention that I'm boarding the Empress OTS on Monday (12/3/07) for the 11 day Exotic Southern Caribbean itinerary.

So if anyone wants me to find anything out about the ship or the ports, ask away and I'll get what information I can for ya!

This is my first Royal Caribbean cruise as well as my first cruise that isn't Western Caribbean. Excited about the Southern itinerary. Even though it's a very port intensive cruise. I'll be exhausted when I get home. I may need another vacation to recover! *giggle*

Please find out when Capt Todal goes on vacation and when Capt Olsen starts. Someone wanted to know if Capt Olsen went by James or "Jim". I just want to know when they rotate so I can figure out who I'm having in January!

Just home from the Empress 11 night, thanksgiving sailing. It was wonderful. Did not miss the bells and whistles like I thought I would being a Mariner fan. I think being at a port 9 days of the 11 made up for it. Wehad an inside cabin, and it is small. Hard to remember the shower curtain of long ago that stuck to your back end. One of us could walk at a time!! We never laughed so hard. There are safes in the rooms. The staff and attention given to us was just outstanding. We have no complaints at all.

We are on the Empress on Monday, staying in a hotel nearby Sunday night and have a checkout time at 11 AM so we'll get a taxi to the ship and then what?

Since the ship always docks at 7 AM, why do I have to wait until 2 PM to board?

Is there an air conditioned waiting room or something at the dock for us to wile away three hours?

Patty and I will be there waiting with ya! We're going to have our cab stop at a store somewhere, then take us to the port. Our flight arrives a little after noon, but chances are that they'll start boarding a lot earlier than the 2pm they quote.

I've never sailed from San Juan. But my 9 previous cruises had a boarding time of 1pm ish. I've never been on the ship later than 1pm and usually before noon even.

See ya there! :D

The Empress was our first cruise and got me hooked. It was a wonderful cruise, but I am hooked on bigger ships now.

I was on her Nov 5.

You should be able to board by noon.

We were at the dock by 11:00 and on by noon.

The cabins are closed until 2 PM.

Go to the Windjammer when you board for a great lunch they put out.

I had the owners suite on the empress and no safe. Asked cabins stewrad who told me secretly that the safe was broken so they took it out and never replaced it.

Went to purser's desk and complaint about no safe, was told that not all cabins come with a safe. I dropped a name of a top executive with RCI and told her that the owners suite comes with a safe and if no safe by tommorrow he would be told about it, had a brand new safe installed within 2-hours

Talking to others on the ship it was hit or miss some had safes while others in same category did not. I am not sure but I think that because they knew the ship was leaving the fleet so they did not want to spend teh money for extra safes

That the cruise you and I were both on in Dec. 6 of 2004?

I seem to remember you posted that you had that problem when we sailed.

I remember because I had one in my JS closet and you didn't.

They have since added them after we got off of her. ;)

Good to see you. :D

Your right it was then

The Empress of the Seas, formally called the Nordic Empress was built for the 3- and 4-day itinerary. The ship was and still is beatiful and well accepted. Eventually they took the ship into dry-dock and modified it for longer cruises, i.e.

7-nights. I assume they made storage area larger to accommondate more supplies and fuel for 7-night sailings.

Because if its small size it was and still is ideal for sailing to Bermuda and getting into St George, Bermuda.

Our waiter told us that so many people complained of a lack of storage space. The rooms are tiny, so no place for luggage, no safes, that they redid her so that the luggage and things could be slid under the beds and such. ;)

And now, they ship her out. :D
