My daughter and I booked b750 on the Ruby in January and are pretty excited about it...I love the idea that it is so private...you have the option of sitting out close to the railing or hanging back in the shade at the table and chairs...looks awesome...happy cruising!:)

we are sailing on the Grand in November and have B748. First time in an aft but am wondering if we should switch to a midship which is called a penthouse suite and a little more money, alsy 64 more sq feet.. It is not the owners suite. Ours is a premium suite. What is the difference between the cabins.

Someone please help me decide about B748. We will be on for two weeks and have been to all the islands so we plan just to chill out on the balcony but if it is that loud, it could ruin the trip. And does anyone know the difference in them or have photos?? thanks

I would change.

We have stayed in the midships PH's and aft Dolphin VS cabins many times; but had one of those PS suites in February on the Emerald. The balcony was tiny, there was a constant smell of cooking odors from the vent while on your balcony and absolutely no shelves in the bathroom.

We had a similar cabin booked for our Aug Alaska trip but have since changed to a Caribe PH.

I am so confused. I want the aft stateroom so bad because we are boaters and would love to sit and watch the wake. From the deck plan, the balcony looks very large - there are only four cabins across the stern.

We just had a suite on the Coral and the balcony was very large, with the table and chairs and two loungers, there was still plenty of room. It was about half way back from midship.

I've heard of people saying that cabin had a loud noise from the vent but not a smell.

I have two votes to stay and two votes to move. I'm too old for this!

See if you can get D736 or D737 a VS suite. It will be a little less $ and I guarantee you will love it. Huge balcony, partial beam obstruction to one side but no big deal. We have hosted the Ultimate Balcony Dinner on these balconies for 8 persons. Super private, quiet, and the best view of the wake.

Was the bathroom smaller than the other suites? Our last one (and first suite) has shelves on each side of the big mirror.

That's kind of why I asked the difference between the premium and penthouse suites. Where is that extra 64 sq feet. I wish Princess would have pictures of some of those cabins. For what we pay, they should be ablle to send us a better description and pictures, especially when they have so many different layouts of suites.

Yes it was slightly smaller and there were no shelves on either side of the sink at all. All personal grooming items, toothbrushes, razors, contacts, medicines, etc had to sit directly around the sink.

We have been on 10 Princess cruises, all in suites and never experienced this before. However, this was our first PS aft suite and will be our last.

If you like a view of the wake and quiet privacy you can't beat D736 or D737.

I just checked and D737 is open for Nov 8th and D736 is open for Nov 22nd.

WOW thanks for the suggestion. I saw that D737 was open (there really are a lot open) and noticed that it was 495 sq ft and B748 was 468 sq ft and it costs more.

What room is that extra sq ft in?

Mostly the balcony (fully covered) with a few feet extra in the bathroom.

I am a boater as well and love the serenity of the aft suites.

Being at the stern it is a hike to most venues but that is a good way to walk off those extra calories.;)

I like the hike. We didn't gain any weight last week and we did a lot of drinking.

With the fully covered balcony, will we be able to get some sun?

I just e-mailed my TA about switching. I booked it on the ship the last day (last half hour of her office hours) and she really didn't offer me any choices of cabins. Said "you're in a suite so you could have B748"

That's not good!!! We wanted sun. Are all the afts covered?

Yep, all that I have experienced on the grand class ships are fully covered.

If I wanted sun I would go for the midships PH's on Caribe, which is what we have booked for August.

The overhead cover on all the aft facing cabins and suites on any of the "Grand" class Princess suites is actually deeper than the balcony itself - so it is fully covered. We have sailed in the Fall in these aft facing cabins several times and the actual sun exposure on the balcony is quite limited. The sun has to be at the right angle to illuminate anything more than right at the railing.

Great balconies for shade lovers and privacy but not great for suntanning.

I hate this!!! I did figure out the difference in the PH and VS cabins. The VS does not have that desk in the living area and i used it all the time in Alaska.

I better decide fast before they are all gone.

One last question. Are all the midship cabins pretty much the same? We are doing the 14 day Caribean Collection. Is port any better - I love watching from my balcony as we come into and leave ports.

I really think 737 might be neater being on the side. My dh isn't much of a help. He just said that our tans will be gone by then so he'd like to get sun.

It's so much easier when there is only one cabin left.

Correct, there is no desk in the entry way; but there is a desk/makeup area just outside the bathroom with chair. This is where we set up our laptop.

And I haven't seen any difference in the midship PH suites on Caribe deck.

A lot of complaints have been heard about the PH suites on the Riviera deck of the larger ships about noise from above.

On the Ruby the VS does not have the shelves in the bathroom and the sink area is alot smaller than the regualr balcony/inside/minisuite cabins, sitting area is smaller, no desk in entry. The beam is on the balcony not a deal breaker from friends cabin on Dolphin deck we visited, we thought the balcony was nice, they said the room was very quiet.

Now to the PS A751 we had..noisy in between our room and A750 for 8 of our 10 nights, all night long from 12pm to 7am made you jump out of bed, we did not sleep. Sounded like heavy doors being slammed shut all night long every few minutes. Loved the balcony and we needed the entry desk, especially for room service dinners. DH wants this room again, it is booked, however after reading these posts I am tempted to take a VS.

We have had the "dreaded vent and dreaded beam" in our suites on the Emerald and the Ruby and truthfully it really did not matter and did not impact our cruise at all. We spend a lot of time in our cabin and that is why we book suites, but it has not really mattered to us. We have absolutely loved our cabins and I think you all will too! Make it your vacation.

beam.jpg

We have an aft balcony that is not a suite. Is this beam in every aft balcony? From looking at photographs of the stern of the ship. it looks like this beam runs down one vertical row on each side of the ship and the rest of the cabins are fine.

What is the cabin # in this photo?

We are on Ruby Princess, B752. Will we have this "dreaded beam"?
