montana20024 Posted September 8, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2004 we are thinking of taking a cruise this winter on Carnival (travelled RCCL before) but have heard many stories about it being a party boat , or filled with kids... There are 6 adults going, ages between 51-67yrs old..any info will be appreciated...thanks/
selucrey Posted September 8, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2004 I think you would enjoy a Carnival cruise. We had two eighty-somethings in our group last year and they are still telling everyone that will listen what a great time they had. I am 55 and my DW is 45. I think the "Party Boat" thinking is a little dated. It was that in the past and maybe still is during the Summer but during the Winter months it is more sedate. RandomUsername723 Posted September 8, 2004 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2004 I havbe to agree with the above. "Party Ship" is just a stereotype for Carnival. Most of the more wild things going on will probobly happen poolside, but other than that the stereotype is pretty much false. Even on my first Carnival cruise in '85. Carnival is a good line, and it attracts people of all ages. I've seen many hapy people in their 50's+ onboard. Avoid Spring Break and to a lesser extent the Summer- though the latter isn't so bad. You should have a great time, so long as you aren't hard to please.
cruisercathy Posted September 8, 2004 #4 Share Posted September 8, 2004 I am 50 years old, have 2 sons ages 16 and 12 and my parents in their mid 70's. We just returned from our first RCCL cruise after many CCL sailings and all 5 of us want to go back on Carnival. WE sailed the Triumph last year and loved it.........Carnival is not a "party boat" it is the "fun ship" We were very disappointed in the food on RCCL........but I must say.....the ship (Navigator) is beautiful...... bombero Posted September 8, 2004 #5 Share Posted September 8, 2004 Hi Montana... We went on the Glory last spring against all advise from everyone.. We are so glad we went.. We rated the Glory a tie for first place with the Golden Princess, for the best cruise ever.. In fact we had such a good time, we booked again on the Valor next April.. Monty, if you and your guest can walk upright and chew bubble gum at the same time, I'd strongly advise you to go on Carnival.. There won't be alot of kids onboard during the winter, unless you book toward the end of Dec.. I would suggest the Fantasy or Conquest class, as they are bigger, newer and have more going on.. Your not going on a cruise for the oatmeal and yogurt are you?.. Just ragging on you a little!! I've been retired 6 years, but absolutely loved the Carnival experience. :) :D .. Bunkie103 Posted September 8, 2004 #7 Share Posted September 8, 2004 DH and I celebrated our 35th anniversary last year on the Triumph and had a wonderful time. We went in October and there were minimal kids aboard, and even then they didn't bother us. Go, enjoy! :D
hstrybuf Posted September 8, 2004 #8 Share Posted September 8, 2004 I have seen all ages aboard Carnival ships having a blast! One lady particularly sticks out in my mind. She was traveling with her children and grandchildren. When she got up on stage to dance with them, you could see her mile wide smile! Whether you're young or young at heart, I think you can have a great time on Carnival. :)
GoinCruisin Posted September 8, 2004 #9 Share Posted September 8, 2004 Okay, first of all.. OLD is a mindset!!!! You are only as old as you feel!!!!!! You will have a great time! On our first cruise, some of our favorite people were in their 60's-70's!!!!! Just have a great time!!! And always remember, age is what YOU make of it!!!!!!!! You can avoid the kids, but you cannot avoid having a great time!! Have a wonderful time!!!!

Linda the Book Lover Posted September 8, 2004 #18 Share Posted September 8, 2004 It has been some moons since we sailed Carnival and we had a ball and decided to come back for a sail with the DD and her SO. Boy, oh boy I can't wait after reading this thread from some others of a "certain age" such as the DH and myself. :)
IBEEMOM Posted September 8, 2004 #19 Share Posted September 8, 2004 How old is old? I have sailed twice on RCCL as well as Carnival. As you can see in my signature I am anxiously waiting to sail on Carnival again. I had a wonderful time and found all of the activities I wanted. It seemed as if everyone was having a great time. Myself included. I will be 75 in November. You can party if you feel like it or not. I can keep up with anyone 30 years younger. Last year I climbed up to the top of the pyramid at Altun Ha and left the youngsters behind. Not too bad for an "old" lady with a knee replacement too. Have a ball and enjoy yourself. SallyMay Posted September 8, 2004 #20 Share Posted September 8, 2004 DH is 60 and I am 59. We love cruising and you will too. I know a couple who celebrated their 65th anniversary on the Holiday this past December and they loved it. Happy cruising.

kfgarrow Posted September 8, 2004 #22 Share Posted September 8, 2004 My parents who are in their mid 60s prefer Carnival over RCCL and Celebrity for the total cruise experience, although they have had a good time on both of these other lines. The oldest people I ever saw on a cruise were a couple we sailed with on the Pride. They had to be in their late 80s--very tiny, almost frail--but very cute. They had been married for something like 65 years! After early seating they would go to the showroom, get good seats front and center, and promptly fall asleep. Somtimes they slept through most of the show! Hey, I gave them credit for getting out there and doing their thing! Kelly
CanTex Posted September 8, 2004 #23 Share Posted September 8, 2004 I would suggest the Fantasy or Conquest class, as they are bigger, newer and have more going on.. To the contrary, the Fantasy class ships are the second oldest (and second smallest) class in Carnival's lineup. They're fine ships nonetheless and have lots going too, but you might consider a Spirit class instead and one of their 8 day itineraries (there will tend to be fewer childern on the longer itineraries).
