Pictures in HAL brochures

I just received another HAL brochure today -- "This is the Caribbean you've been looking for."

 

Browsing though it, I realized that I recognized -- sort of -- one of the people, because he's also featured in the current Lands' End catalog. He's the guy I call the ex-Russian spy, and he looks very polished in a flax-colored sports jacket in the HAL brochure (accompanied by a lovely lady who I'm guessing is not his wife), and dashing in a red men's classic Squall jacket in the Lands' End "Great last-minute gifts for your family" catalog.

 

Now I'm wondering if all of the uber-attractive people featured on the HAL brochures (especially the ones wearing very lightweight clothing on the huge balconies always featured in the Alaska cruise brochures) are catalog models, and if I'd find more familiar faces if I looked at more of the catalogs.

No doubt about it, the people in the pictures, in all cruise line brochures, are models.

 

Real passengers tend to weigh more when they leave a cruise than when they arrived, jiggle when they move, sag, bag, have too much or not enough hair, have funny looking noses and often more than one chin.

Well ... yes and no.

Some of the photos are, of course, staged with professional models.

Others are real photos of real people ... both staff and passengers.

For instance ... this HAL staff person:

 

 

is named "Sekon." He's been photographed in many HAL brochures, and yet was also Head Steward for my area of the dining room aboard the Noordam in January 2007.

I'm obviously not a model since I'm in the jiggle-sag-bag category. :p So you won't find me in any HAL brochures.

 

I agree with Heather. All those finely-tuned individuals on their penthouse verandahs are carefully-selected models.

One night while watching a regular movie on Cinemax,I fell asleep on the couch. When I woke up at about 3am, The movie I woke up to was one of those soft pornos. The man doing the deed was a familiar face, he was the guy in the Princess brochure that I got for our 2006 Crown princess Brooklyn to carribean itinerary. I could'nt keep a straight face looking at that book again - True story Princess will not deny this.

I can tell you for sure the cabin photos are done while ships are sailing, with 'real people' staying in them.....that they are exactly as pictured.

 

One of the photos used in most of the brochures showing one of the views of the "S" suite was taken of our suite while we occupied it on Veendam in January 2005. The photo that shows the large couch, glass door to the veranda, the counter top and angle of the bed is for sure ours.

 

The reason I can always identify it is the photographer (the brilliant photographer who does the magnificent photos in Porthole Magazine - - - I think his name is Michel Verdura or something like that) told us to place a personal article on the countertop so we would always be able to identify it really as our cabin. If you look closely at the photo, beside the tv is a small picture frame. That is our frame we always travel with.

 

It took him and his assistant almost three hours to take that photo. :)

 

We always get a kick out of seeing 'our suite' in the brochures.
