I know this may sound like a stupid question but besides the obvious, such as the Dome and Pools, are you able to point out some of the changes.:)

Hi jarrod,

One i noticed was the tub chairs in the front area of the show lounge. Also the change of where the casino is now from being a dance floor area, i think the move of the casino from the dome was very good as the dome was then accessable to families and to just hang out without the noise of pokies all day.

The changes mentioned: 1. Tub chairs in front of stage in show lounge -

This was done to accommodate more pax due to increase in ship's max pax from 1590 to 2050. They made the stage smaller to get in the extra seats.

2. Moving Casino from 'Dome to Stage Door Bar/dance area' was done to accommodate more pax in Dome plus drag in a few more punters into the casino, now in centre of ship, so you have to walk through it.

I thought there was ample room for 1590 on RP but it was obvious that with another 460 pax coming on..they had to make extra public room area.

Would be interesting for someone who travelled on RP to do a cruise on PD and compare standards. Can you all chip in a few $ for me to perform that terrible job.?

Going through those pics of RP brought back memories of my cruise for me, a few bad, but most good.

:p

 Cheers..Les.

So the $40 million they spent sprucing her up was virtually spent on the Dome??

In my mind I was picturing a massive transformation a la Ocean Village II (Aida Blu).

Wasn't it spent on converting cabins from twin to quad share as well?

The Regal was one of our most travelled ships. I'd love to get back on board to see what they did.

The casino up on top was a dumb idea to begin with. It was therefore a "destination" and not something you thought, "oh what the heck" and used as you passed through it. I talked to some of the dealers who said it was the least used casino in the fleet.

We sailed twice on Regal Princess, most recently 3-06 'round the Horn., Buenos Aires to Valparaiso.

Always thought the Dome was misused as a casino (but I am not a gambler).

Regal Princess rode well, and was a comfortable ship. We hope you Aussies appreciate her.

I certainly appreciate her. She's a lovely ship & we had a wonderful time on board. Every person I spoke to commented on the fact that the Dome was wasted as a casino.

yes we are looking forward to traveling on the old Regal Princess, it is the biggest and as far as I am aware the best ship to be based in Australia all year round. I think it will transform cruising downunder for ever.

Well, $40 million worth of change/upgrades is what Carnival Corp spent on RP n changeover to PD, and that was straight from Capt.Andrew Froude's mouth at dinner. On RP they embarked about 50 tradesmen in NZ who were working on the 'changes' prior to Sydney, that inc shutting down the dome and princess theatre for the last 3 days of the cruise which was poor. When we arrived at Darling Harbour, another 300 tradesmen were marching on to work on the ship on ay to Singapore and back. Big pay.

Have a look at the photos of the Regal Princess. For those who have recently been on the Dawn, there are quite a few changes. :)

Very interesting.

Hi Jen,

Photos look great, i reckon all the changes are for the better. She still needs a bar on one of the back decks, probably Baja where the snorkel hire is.

Also can you ask Phil to let me know the maker of the map he had for the cruise. Tried to get one from a map place today and they couldn't help, otherwise would it be possible for him to get one for me from the place in Newcastle.

All the best and Happy New Year.

Happy New Year

I did a search and found that the map place in Newcastle has an on-line shop.

http://www.themapshop.com.au Search for 4602 (the chart number) and there you are. The chart of the South Pacific. :) This should be the easiest for you. Have fun, Phil will send you the GPS co-ordinates for the islands.

Gooch, congratulations on having your video of your cruise on the front page of Cruise Critic. :)
