Vienna to Budapest: how to transit on land?

Bill S

Recommended Posts

We are going on an Avalon Christmas Market cruise in December 2008 which ends in Vienna.

We are considering staying-over in order to see Budapest, if that is practicable. If it is we would probably spend two nights in Budapest and either fly out of Budapest or return to Vienna for the flight home, depending on the air fare.

How long of a train ride is it between these two cities?

Does the train station in Vienna have luggage lockers?

Any help will be appreciated!

This is the Austrian Rail website. I´m quite sure they do have lockers at the train stations in Vienna (be careful, there are several train stations in Vienna).

Try it with "Wien" instead of "Vienna". From Vienna Western Station it´s an 3 hour train ride to Budapest.

For a Christmas Market cruise unfortunately this is no alternative

as those hydrofoil boats are only running April - October.
