wlfarm Posted January 7, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2008 Planning on June and looking for advice to sail Millenium or Radiance of the Seas. Never sailed either line. Please share any high/low points you've experienced. Also, thinking about cruise tour that will add Talkeetna, Denali and Anchorage. Would you recommend tour, or renting a car and doing it on our own? Thanks in advance for the help.
NancyIL Posted January 8, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2008 I really like RCI and have never cruised with Celebrity. Celebrity's M-class ships have had trouble in the past with ports being missed and cruises being cancelled due to engine troubles. It isn't difficult to see some sights in Seward when your cruise ends, then take the 6 p.m. train to Anchorage. Pick-up a rental car the next day and spend as much time as you wish in Anchorage, Talkeetna, and Denali, before returning the car to Anchorage and flying home. Budget Queen Posted January 8, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2008 Since you are asking, if going on your own or a tour is worthwhile you are open to going on your own?? Frankly going on your own is superior, and spending time in Seward a "not to be missed" in my opinion. Consider it.

ptbooth Posted January 10, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 10, 2008 We took the Radiance cruisetour #12 last August. 5 days on land first (1 night Talkeetna with time for flightseeing around Denali, 2 nights in Denali with the Tundra Wilderness Tour, 1 night in Fairbanks, flight back to Anchorage and bus to the ship) worked well for us. Overall it was a convenient trip of a lifetime for our family who won't be able to return multiple times to Alaska. I splurged on independent excursions for each port. This was our first/only cruise, and we had a great time.
