speedyjane Posted January 16, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2008 We are looking to book a cruisetour. Has anyone taken one on Carnival? I've sailed with Carnival to Canada and was pleased with the trip. However my question is in regards to their land tour: quality of tour (sights and time spent on stops and accommodations. Thanks. SeattleCruiselover Posted January 16, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 16, 2008 Carnival does not do cruise tours. For that you would have to go to their sister lines Princess and HAL. Also RCI and X do them.
speedyjane Posted January 16, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted January 16, 2008 Hi, I saw on the Carnival website that they run 2 tours-3 or 4 days - each running north and southbound. Has anyone taken one of these tours?
SeattleCruiselover Posted January 16, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 16, 2008 Apparently they DO have something new in the works. They are nowhere as long and/or as detailed as the other lines--they have only two distinct itineraries, for example, as compared to Princess' 19+--but you can link to the info here: http://www.carnival.com/CMS/Static_Templates/promos/alaska07/itineraries_extended.aspx
Budget Queen Posted January 16, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 16, 2008 Carnival has run cruisetours for YEARS. At least 10. This is the highest cost option for touring interior Alaska. They are way lacking, in my opinion. The worse feature is the Natural History tour that is included. You need to do your homework, and determine what your priority is for this travel??? IF you are looking forward to touring Denali Park- seen photos etc. This tour option is NOT going to cut it. The Park Road into Denali park is 90 miles. You absolutely need to get to at least 53 for scenery and wildlife. The public road is 16 miles, this is as FAR as the Natural History tour gets. Kind of like, making plans for Disneyland and not getting out of the parking lot. :) A lot of this trip is in transit, with ANY tour choice, look at this. On shorter tours like these, it can be most of the time. Anchorage/Denali park, by rail is 8 hours, 4 hours Denali Park/Fairbanks. Bus 6 hours and 2++. You ideally need two nights in Denali Park. Shuttle buses booked independently, go the entire distance at 1/3 the price of the shorter "tour" buses.
