Have you taken the water taxi on Naussa? Where did you go and how much did it cost? Can you take it over to Paradise Island? Is there anything other then the resort there, nice beach? Can you walk around the grounds there? Can you go to the aquarium for a fee? Thanks for your help, Pat

When you get off the ship you will walk down the pier to a large building where they process everyone coming into the Bahamas. Once you exit that building take a right and follow the waterfront road/walkway towards the ferry. Don't worry, there will be plenty of people right outside that building ( I like to call them taxi pimps) trying to get you to go with them. Just ask for the Paradise Island water taxi, they will point you in the direction. As far as the price, we were there last and it was like $6 round trip for both people, they give you tickets. The stack the ferry until it is almost sinking and it goes pretty slow and is LOUD. There is usually a "tour guide" on there pointing out interesting places, then he suckers tips from people as you are getting off. Taking a regular taxi may be a little quicker but the water taxi is an experience to say the least. Paradise Island is beautiful, the Atlantis lobby aquarium is free and it pretty cool. I think the official tour is like $28 per person. The main beach on Paradise Island is cabbage beach, if you walk to the right a little bit there will hardly anyone there.

We discovered Atlantis/Paridise Island on a Carnival Cruise to Nassua about 5 years ago. We rode a car taxi to Atlantis and paid 25.00 per person to view Atlantis. You could do everything but the pools, waterslides and beach. It is a awesome place so great that we went there and stayed 3 years later. Took the water taxi from paridise island to Nassua. Old boat, loud and lots of people. Taxi would be faster but may cost a little more. Depends on what you would like to do. Atlantis is a must see!

I clicked on this quickly thinking you were having trouble with nausea on a water taxi! I was all set to offer seasick advice :) when you really wanted info for Nassau :D .

HA! Funny. Sorry I should watch my typing better, I find myself usually doing this late at night and in a hurry. But if it gave you a laugh then that's OK. Sounds like the water taxi is a NO the 70ish parents wouldn't appreciate it. SO is the finally word you have to pay to look around Atlantis? Can we just go walk on the beach hear there, no cost? Pat

Can we just stroll down the Cabbage Beach, is there a place to sit and maybe have a drink? Maybe some chairs or a shaddy spot? PAt

Cabbage beach is about a 1/2 mile walk from Atlantis.

When you first arrive at Cabbage beach you will go down a small hill. That is where most of the vendors are set up. I am not sure if you can rent beach chairs or not. There are a lot of private time shares/condos in that area that have their own private beach chairs. We usually walk all the way down to the right to the small cove. Depending on the time of day you can sometimes find shade under the trees.

So let me rephrase this cause my parents and 2 new cruisers are counting on me. We will be taking a taxi to Atlantis and from there we can walk to Cabbage Beach, but will it be obvious where to go? Just look towards the ocean and head to the beach? Down a small hill, once I get out of taxi? Lots of pesky vendors?

Since we can't use Altantis beach how do we avoid walking through it, or do we go around it?

You suggested going to the right to get away from crowd, could you clarify, facing ocean head right? I know this seems silly, but having never been there I'm just a little worried, want to get this right cause once I'm there you can help me.

Thanks for your help,

Pat

We were on the same cruise with Jenna1983. When you dock in Nassau, you go thru a building at the end of the pier to get outside to Nassau. Once outside, there are many taxi's waiting to take where you want. They are inside the pier building too all holding signs advertising "Paradise Island", etc.

Anyway, just tell them you want to go to Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island. I think we paid $7 a person for one way. They have you there in less than 10 minutes.

They drop you off at the curb right where there is a little hill with a sign that says "Cabbage Beach" with an arrow pointing straight ahead. You walk up the little hill (only about a 2 to 3 minute walk), and when you come up to the top of the hill you'll the see the beach in front of you. You'll be walking in along the side of the Comfort Inn/Suites. Atlantis will be on your left, 3rd hotel down the way. The guys will come up to you wanting to sell you chairs and umbrellas. The chairs are $10 apiece and the umbrellas were $25. The highest price we encountered on all the islands we went to.

Be VERY wary of the guys that have a table sat up under the trees selling "all you can drink" rum based drinks for $10 for the whole day. They sell their drinks out of halved coconuts. Sure, they'll give you "all you can drink"...til 4pm when they fold everything up and split! We were told they do this everyday! We got there at 1pm, so we got our moneys worth, but other people had just paid them, got one drink, and then they were gone!

After they split, we noticed there is a woman a little bit down the beach who offers the same special. She has umbrellas over her stand. After the other guys left, people started going to her. She is legit and won't run out on you. It also turns out though she is the Mom of the guys that leave at 4pm! So either go to her straight off and don't deal with the guys that leave at 4pm, or if you are going to be gone by 4pm, then it won't matter if you buy from those guys.

When you are ready to go, just go back to where the taxi dropped you off. There will be taxi's there waiting to take you back.

P.S. We got them down to $7 a person for "all you can drink", so the $10 is not sit in stone. :p

Atlantis is a HUGE hotel with a lot of buildings, a large casino, and a mall. Taxi will probably drop you off at the main entrace with all of the big fountains. If you do not get a day pass you are limited to what you can do there, but worth the experience at least once. There is no access for day visitors to access the Atlantis beach so you will have to walk down the street to get to Cabbage Beach. The walk from Atlantis to Cabbage Beach will be pretty long and I probably would not recommend it if you have two 70 year olds with you. I would take a cab from the pier to Atlantis, do Atlantis for an hour or so. Then get a cab to take you to Cabbage Beach.

The location of Cabbage beach will be obvious, the less populated area is to the right when facing the water.

I would recommend maybe going to google earth or google maps and zoom in on Nassau. You will see Paraside Island to the north of Nassua connected by a few bridges. You will also see Atlantis and appreicate the size of it. Cabbage beach is the long beach to the east of Atlantis.

Wow! Now we're talking. You guys are awesome!!! My parents are in their mid 70's, been married 55 years, but they are really active so we'll see. They teach dancing to people 1/2 their age and Mom just had her shoulder fixed cause she didn't want to give up water skiing on one ski, she hates skiing on two.

But, I really feel good about this now. We will need to choose between Atlantis or Cabbage Beach because by teh time we have breakfastand get off the ship and back to the ship we'll only have about 3-4 hours. My votes for beach but I'll consult with the gang, we have 2 new cruisers with us too, my boss and her husband.

I am soo geeked about google maps and I'm going to try google earth.

THanks for the advice, anyone else with ideas I'd love to hear from you. This is the next best thing to cruising.

Again your great! Pat

  • 4 years later...

I am in the same boat (no pun intended) in April. I was told to catch the water taxi just for the experience and walk down to Cabbage Beach. I was also told that there are no vendors selling drinks or food on Cabbage Beach. It appears this was incorrect.

As for Atlantis, is everyone saying you can go to Atlantis and walk through the acquarium for free???? This seems odd to me.

Also, has anyone purchased the day pass for either the Riu or Hilton. The Riu is about $75 per adult but includes food and all you can drink. This sounds good, but travelling with three small boys, probably won't drink that much!!!

Can someone please confirm the above stuff.

To the lady travelling with her parents and the first time cruising couple, I'd like to know what you thought about your day on Paradise Island when you return and what you ended up doing.
