Star-Man Posted January 23, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2008 Now i know that this is not particularly on topic, but i know that there are a few people on here that prefer the "older" ships and their character to the new floating apartment blocks. I found this article on CC outlining some of the old classics that will be put out of service thanks to the new SOLAS regulations coming in in 2010. It isnt the most recent article but it is still sad. Especially reading that some of them can be saved if all the wooden interiors that give them that special something are stripped. http://www.cruisecritic.com/articles_print.cfm?ID=
Rare arxcards Posted January 24, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2008 I recall the discussion when QE2's retirement was announced. I an sure she could have stayed on the seas for another 20 years. I am glad she will stay intact vs being stripped & refurbished. The near disaster of Sea Princess is a recent reminder that fires and cruise ships are best kept apart and safety is a main influence for SOLAS. It is a pity that many of the old girls will retire from the sea though.
