Port Canaveral customs question

First and only cruise (so far) was last spring. After getting off the Glory we went through customs and was cleared then we left the room and picked up our luggage. Is this typical? I would have thought you would have you luggage for customs to inspect if they so desired.

If we brought more booze than allowed who would ever know?

From what I've been told, it isn't the same everywhere. Port Canaveral and San Diego do it this way-I've been in and out of both ports. Customs at the piers doesn't work the same way as it does at the international terminals in airprots. The ship knows what booze you brought when you boarded and they watch for what you bring on board while in ports and will confiscate it to hold til the end of the cruise so you pretty much need to carrry it off. It's pretty hard to pack a lot of booze. The other issue is honesty. IF you buy over your limit of booze, I would hope you would report it. I guess it's just my background, christian faith, and my current career field, but I always tell the truth about what I buy on a cruise. Unless you buy a lot, customs doesn't really pursue it though from what I've seen.

We talked to one of the Glory crew members that was selling alcohol in one of the shops. We were concerned about buying more alcohol than what was allowed to go through customs. He said customs isn't worried about how much alcohol you buy. And they aren't about to hold up the lines to start looking through people's luggage. We were "allowed" to each bring back a 1 liter bottle, we bought four. No problems. Next time we'll buy even more. :)

Especially Sheridans!!
