Which of the best hotels in Rio are on the beach? Not across street ON the beach.

I think the only hotel on the beach is the Sheraton and if you read further below quite a few people haven't like this hotel because of the neighbourhood and apparently the beach is supposed to be private but wasn't. Here is the link http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=19577

 

We are looking at hotels in Rio for January, 2006 and I am tossing up between the Sofitel and the Marina Palace or Le Meridien. I am waiting to hear from those who are going this Christmas.

I am looking at Sofitel as the pool area looks gorgeous..didn't realize that everything is across street.. Copa may be booked.. but working on that one..
