DEIx15x8 Posted April 17, 2008 #427 Share Posted April 17, 2008 After taking a screenshot of the flyover portion of the RCL "spotlight" video (from their "Genesis" Project website), I was able to put together this very speculative rendering of how things will be placed topside. Hope all on this thread find the results interesting and cause for discussion. http://pictures.cruisecritic.com/showfull.php?photo=3686 PS If there is any copyright dispute in this video capture and adaptation (taken from RCL's "Genesis" Project website) as determined by the moderators, please immediately remove the items in question. Good job! I looked at that shot too but missed so much. I noticed that cantilevered pool deck sections but completely missed the flow riders. I hope they do two like you spotted, it definitely looks like it. That idea of the indoor Solarium really makes allot of sense. I'm not sure how they will deal with the people that want to tan but the Solstice class appears to do something very similar. I think you are the closest to being right from everything I've seen and heard so far. Edit: I just compared that original rendering to the over head and noticed that while there are still 9 lifeboats they have repositioned them. Alegeeter Posted April 17, 2008 #429 Share Posted April 17, 2008 I hope no one falls from the top deck into Central Park, I wonder what kind of barriers they will have? I also can't imagine looking down from the top deck and seeing all the ants walk by. I still don't see how they can comfortably seat 5,000 guests on the top deck. I would hope RCL found a solution to chair hogging, but at this rate it doesn't look like it.

It'll most likely have the same kind of railing as the outside of the ship, so it may happen but the odds are very slim. The railing area around CP is only about 1/100th the amount of railings at the sea. Then you have to factor in the number of times someone falls from a ship. That ends with one person at most falling over. Think of it like an atrium. How many times have people fallen over one of those railings.

This is the best job that I have seen on the capture of the fly over. Also a great job of picking out the different areas. It will be fun to watch the slow reveal that RCI is planning. I guess once they name the ship, they will launch a website like they did with Freedom.

I would hope RCL found a solution to chair hogging, but at this rate it doesn't look like it. It really won't be any different than any ship at sea today. Not all guests are going to be out on the top deck. Some will be using central park, others will be on the promenade area, casino, Windjammer, their private balcony, etc. As far as chair hogging, it will be business a usual.:)

Wow, great job. That is a great 'flyover' picture. Thanks. Just one question, what is the 'boardwalk'? I remember it floating around the boards a few months ago, but I completely forget what it is. Thanks again.

I remember it floating around the boards a few months ago, but I completely forget what it is. Thanks again. I'm thinking of some sort of pool/entertainment area on the back of the ship. That's my best guess.
crusinmama06 Posted April 18, 2008 #437 Share Posted April 18, 2008 How are all these people saying they're on the Genesis first sailing? I thought it was darn near impossible to get on a first sailing, and since booking doesn't open until late summer - how can one claim they're going on it? I'd love to go on it, but seeing as we'd need a room for 5, have no idea where it's sailing from or to, and no idea of the pricing, or if I'd even get a slot - how would one plan to be on this sailing? Surely I'm missing something here... I'm so lost. :) It's pretty simple actually. :) Some of us decided a long time ago that we wanted to be on the Inaugural sailing out of Port Everglades. We don't care when it leaves, don't care where it goes, don't even care what they call it, we just want to be on it. :D So when you see a little dancing crab in someone's signature, that means they are part of the Cruise Critic Genesis Inaugural Sailing group. The group is here... http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=519 On another note, did anyone else see this new story from Jamaica. It says Falmouth won't be ready until May 2010. http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/magazines/Business/html/20080415T230000-0500_134573_OBS_FALMOUTH_CRUISE_TERMINAL_TO_COST_____B.asp
mrcruzer Posted April 18, 2008 Author #438 Share Posted April 18, 2008 aleblzr, that is an AWESOME screen. It definitely cleared up a lot for me. While the potential pool areas may be correct, is it going to leave much room for sun loungers? Anyone else notice that the flyover is at an angle preventing any vision to the aft section of the ship, our possible boardwalk area? ;)smart rci. In the video it mentioned larger staterooms. Anyone wanna bet that they prob will be the same size or SMALLER than current staterooms?

dfishner Posted April 18, 2008 #441 Share Posted April 18, 2008 Seeing the renderings and the video was amazing and impressive will be looking forward to seeing what other ideas they will be coming up for the ship. I have no desire to go on the first sailings like for the kinks to be worked out first. I am also curious on how much a balcony cabin will run? I am on the Freedom this November and if Genesis is within range I will probably switch.

Brian131489 Posted April 18, 2008 #443 Share Posted April 18, 2008 Awww...don't be mad......the jury is still out on that....we will probably LOVE it! ;) I think that people in general are upset at the way the contest was run. RCCL ran the contest imo haphazardly and with so many multiples. I have never seen a contest ran like this, and it goes to show that they may very have the names already picked, but wanted to see what everyone else would come up with. I send a big congradulations to those that have one and wish them good luck.

Cruising89143 Posted April 18, 2008 #447 Share Posted April 18, 2008 One thing that I have noticed about Central Park. It seems that RCI has designed this area more for adults than kids which IMHO is a good thing. No mention of things for kids to do.

I was wondering why they were moving from the family image that Freedom class has. Oh well I guess it's too early to speculate. We'll see what the pool deck looks like. That's all the kids care about anyway.

I think that the pool area is where you will find most of the stuff for the kids such as the H2O Zone, Flowrider, Sports court, etc. Let's face it, the grass would not hold up if kids were using that area to play in.
