ladytaekwondo Posted February 25, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2008 I just completed a five day cruise off Grandeur of the Seas (February 18-February-23) out of Tampa, Cozumel, Progresso. I will be posting a review on the Cruise Reviews later this week but in the interim if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. I will try my best to answer! Quick answers to FAQs: 1. No more Midnight Chocolate/Gala buffets BUT there was a poolside Mardi Gras buffet party with ice and fruit/vegatable sculptures and tons of food. It was served at 1130-1230 pm. 2. Windjammer Marketplace no longer serving juices for lunch and dinner unless you specifically ask the waiter for it on this ship. Only water, tea, and lemonade were set out. Cranberry juice and orange juice were available on request. The guava juice was replaced by "passionfruit juice" and it is not available in the Windjammer but only in the main dining room. 3. Seattle Coffee (plain black coffee---not speciality..) was charged for on the Sea Pass and not free. The only place coffee was free on the ship was in Windjammer and in the dining room. We are not coffee drinkers but all of our dining companions were and this was a bone of contention--apparently the same coffee on Navigator of the Seas is free. I know things vary from ship to ship such as the Jade Restaurant (some charge for the Jade (Monarch of the Seas) and some do not (Navigator of the Seas) and some just put out the sushi products on the buffet and don't call it the Jade (Grandeur of the Seas). 4. Yes, the Captain is leaving and taking over Independence of the Seas when she comes over to the US ports in November. He made the announcement to us. 5. How was the entertainment? Wonderful!!! Tanker4 Posted February 25, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2008 We were on the same cruise on Feb 4th (our first time on the Grandeur). Had a great cruise and really enjoyed the ship. The crew was the best we've encountered in a long time. Have a 10 day booked on her in Dec and can't wait.:D
wolfcathorse Posted February 25, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2008 Do you know when Capt Remo is leaving Grandeur? I'd think he'd want a vacation before tackling Indy!!
teajak Posted February 25, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 25, 2008 We were also on this cruise. Coffee, tea, milk, juice and cookies are available and free in the casino all morning. The only place coffee is charged for is at Ben-Jerry's and that is specialty coffee.Didn't care much for the specialty shows but loved the Platters. The crew was great as usual. Thought Progresso was terrible, better to stay on the ship. The Captain was nice and informative.Very nice Platinum-Diamond party with lots of interaction from the officers mingling with the guests and answering questions. Love this ship.

Love this ship. The platinum/diamond party was also very nice on our Feb 4th cruise and the Captain and his officers were very approachable. My DW had previously met the Captain's wife at a scrapbooking affair and told her that my family originally came to the US from Norway,so she spent quite a bit of time with us and brought her husband over to introduce him.:)
Rare silentbob007 Posted February 25, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 25, 2008 As far as I can tell from Navigator of the Seas, free Seattle's Best coffee is only available in the Cafe Promenade and only because they had self-serve in the cafe. Otherwise ... if someone pours your coffee at the Seattle's Best, you have to pay for it. Since Grandeur only has the specialty place and no cafe ... I'm guessing this is the reason for the fee. I will be posting a review on the Cruise Reviews later this week but in the interim if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. I will try my best to answer! We will be on the Grandeur in less than 30 days. I do have a couple of quick questions. 1) Did you have soap/shampoo dispensers in the shower? Were the products suitable or should I bring my own bottle? We will be in a Junior Suite if that makes any difference. 2) Is there an outdoor walking/jogging path? I am practicing for a mini-marathon and thought I could take a few laps on the sea day. Is it covered or exposed to the sunshine? After these last few weeks of snow, I am ready for the sunshine! 3) Were there any themed nights on the ship that we should be prepared for? Any tips or suggestions please!! Oh one last question, did you stay in Tampa precruise? If so, where?
