Any Snorkeling recommendations?

I'd really like a chance to snorkel at Costa Maya, since it is supposed to have a beautiful reef. I saw there are boat tours, but I always tend to go slower than the rest of the group, and it isn't fun to feel rushed or like I am holding the group back. Is there any place to snorkel from the beach near C. Maya that would be worthwhile?

We snorkeled at the beach at the pier in Costa Maya but it was not easy. The shore is all rocks and with the waves it is difficult to get in and out of the water and there is not a lot to see. You can also snorkel from the beautiful sand beach in Mahahual. Again, I have read that to get to the best snorkeling you will need to take a boat to the reef. I hope this helps!
