Cruiser765 Posted February 28, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2008 I am sure this topic must have been covered, but l can't seem to locate it, so apologies in advance if l duplicate! Although transfers are included from our NY hotel to the QM, would there be any advantage in us making our own transfer arrangements to the ship. Thank You Jackie:)
smithcvs Posted February 28, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 28, 2008 None whatsoever. It is all in the price, although you may get there a little quicker if you hired a Limo or taxi at between $50 and $100 if you are in Central Manhattan. I wouldn't bother. Have a great trip. Rare LadyL1 Posted February 28, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 28, 2008 Jackie Cabs in NY are expensive, so definitely stick with the option you have, especially as the ship now departs from Brooklyn. We are on the same trip, as noted from previous posts. We are flying in from elsewhere in the USA under our own plans, so do not have the pleasure of being escorted to the QM2. No doubt there is a possibility we shall meet on this epic "Tandem" crossing.
nelly1 Posted February 28, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 28, 2008 hi. i was actually wondering about this too cause we are staying in NY for 3 nights before our departure and my booking confirmation says that transfers between hotel and QM2 are inclued. but what does this mean? is it like a bus with other passengers on it that goes around the city? or like a mini van or something? thanks. smithcvs Posted February 28, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 28, 2008 It all depends on the amount of people to transfer as to which mode of transport is used.
Cruiser765 Posted February 29, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted February 29, 2008 Thanks Guys, I am so used to organising my own travel/transfer arrangements l was beginning to have horrid thoughts of being herded on to a coach, dragged round manhattan for hours and finally being deposited at Redhook behind 2000 plus pax waiting to board! But your advice is good and l think l will have to just be patient and go with the flow! Lady, look forward to meeting up on board, there is a roll call for this trip but it appears to have gone quiet at the moment. Jackie:)

Lady, look forward to meeting up on board, there is a roll call for this trip but it appears to have gone quiet at the moment. Jackie:) I would be very surprised to hear that your transfer vehicle would make any more than a very few hotel stops (1 or 2 at most) for Cunard Air/Land package groups. No one living in Manhattan would arrange transport through Cunard (at least if they did, I would want to sit them down and put them through a few psych tests) even if it were available, since it would surely 1) cost more than a cab/black car for 2 pax and 2) take longer. I expect you will find the transfer comfortable, stress-free and efficient (virtually point-to-point). So Cunard, please don't make a liar out of me! But just in case, a recent cab ride from the Upper West Side to the pier in Red Hook was $35 plus tip. Midtown hotel should be less. Beware, though, many Manhattan cabbies are still not that familiar with getting to the terminal in Red Hook. I literally had to read to ours from Mapquest. Although there are smallish directional signs tacked up on posts, etc. but even to notice them, you almost have to know which way to go already! Thank You Michael, We are staying at the Waldorf, and quite prepared to pay for our own transfer just for the convenience of departing at the time we want to and not having to hang around waiting for the coach/mini bus/ LIMO;) Wishful thinking!!! However, all the advice here has been good and very much appreciated. Nows the time to mull over again!:) Jackie
exlondoner Posted February 29, 2008 #9 Share Posted February 29, 2008 I hope this isn't deemed irrelevant, but when QE2 berthed in Manhattan, the coach took us directly from the Warldorf to the dock, without any other calls. Similarly with atrip from the Mandarin to the airport. Jane
