Just heard..AOS OUT OF BEER/CIGs!

We were on a RCCL last April and they ran out of ginger ale. You might say big deal but it's the only soft drink they served which was caffeine free, so to us it was a big deal. They also ran out of a beer we don't drink but others were upset. The ginger ale is good as a mixer but we just switched to coke and dealt with the sleepless nights. We were on an NCL ship which ran out of Martini & Rossi which we really would have enjoyed. What we don't know is if the cruise line ordered enough but the supplier didn't deliver or if it was their own mistake, which I doubt, they certainly don't need to watch their budget when it comes to drinks. It's probably their biggest profit as they certainly don't make it on the room rates. Think about it, if you were selling beer like crazy would you cut back your order? Too bad RCCL doesn't post with us. They could certainly sort out many questions answered here. But then again it would probably take 10 people 24 X 7 just to keep up with us. lol!!T hey say they don't read these posts and tell the crew to say so also but every cruise director we have heard has referred to the posts.

no diet coke? No BEER??? Oh, the insanity

Ok...first the hand sanitizers are missing, now more than a few posters have said the cruise they were on ran out of milk, beer, cig's, and pop. Granted not all on the same cruise but there seems to be a pattern developing. Then the fuel surcharge...hummmmmm

What's next? toilet paper? forks? sheets? towels?

It always amazes me when people get all peeved about others stating a valid complaint. Again, as I said in another post, it's not like someone is complaining about the decor or that the food isn't up to their standards...this is no beer! It's important if you are a beer drinker and bc you are on a ship it's not like you can walk across the street and buy one if your resort runs out. I can drink beer, wine, and mixed drinks so this wouldn't be a huge deal to me but my husband, well he would be very upset. I'm not even going to tell him about this and hope that it doesn't happen on our cruise in July nor should RCI allow this to happen again.

On the Grandeur out of Baltimore on two different sailings which we were on, the bars ran out of Miller Lite. They were restocked at the next port, so it really wasn't a big deal! I guess it IS a big deal if you're out to sea for 2 - 3 days! Also - the last time it happened (this past October) they ran a special on Foster's beer - buy one, get one. I do not know if this was a planned special or if it was as a result of running out of Miller!

Suze!

On the Explorer last October, they ran out of Fosters beer and had to replenish in St. Maarten - I think they got some from another RCCL ship that was in port.

That lasted for a few days and then ran out again a couple of days later.

Shoo

we've only been on 3 cruises, but this hasnt ever happened.. Ive never even HEARD of it until the last week or so on this board, for 2 separate cruises. I cant imagine how RCL would let that happen, considering how much they make off beer sales onboard

The only time it happened was last November on the Navigator. They didn't run out but it took them a while to fill their stock in the beginning. They were still switching from the European itinerary after their TA a week earlier.

My brother in law and his entire family (15) are currently on the AOS...he just checked in with us and said that the ship is OUT of ALL MILLER products, OUT of ALL BUD products, OUT of all CORONA ....and out of ciggaretes and they still have 3 days to go.

They are NOT happy campers. What's going on? I've heard this from other posters that the ship runs out of stuff. AND then they have the gall to stop you from taking on your own. HEY...maybe that's how they were stocking there own shelves, buy confisacating pax beer...and now that they don't allow it on board ....people stopped trying to sneak it on...and now the ships running out?????? Why...just maybe they'll loosen the rules again just to stock their shelves...(don't know how to put on those smiley faces..so just imagine one here)

I got some news for you and your brother-in-law:

A ship has limited storage capacity and has very little chances to refill their stock while cruising. If a lot of people use one item it may be 'out of stock' rather quickly.

RCI as any other cruise line stock based on past usage. If a cruise comes along which is out of the norm (with onboard ordering) these things (out of stock) can happen.

just came back from AOS..... I did NOT experience any of the beer problems I am reading about. I do drink beer 95% of the time and while I do not drink watered down domestics (miller/bud lite) no one in my party of 10 had problems getting a beer and I saw no problems in any of the bars or the casino!!!

It's spring break, I bet a lot of beer has been consumed. Sounds like they still have non-domestic brews.

Yep, that's what happened to us on our spring break cruise last March on the Sovereign. By the 3rd night or our 4 night cruise, the ship was out of Bud/Light, Miller/Light, and Corona. Boy, those kids sure could drink!!!

"news". ?

Sir...I can certainly understand running out of "a" product during a cruise, maybe even 2 products. But clearly something went wrong somewhere when they completely ran out of 3 brands of beer and completely out of 2 brands of ciggarettes. And for the record, I am NOT a beer drinker and have never smoked. It's a stocking issue, and it was the responsibility of someone at RCCL to make sure that commonly requested products be onboard. This is a large ship and there are many passengers....it's someones job to know how and when to restock and to anticipate usage.

I'm with FL Cruiser on this one. I think the ships do a great job in that it is very rare you hear compliants of items running out. A ship cannot easily restock like a land based hotel. They are prepared for most scenarios but on rare occasions a particular group of cruisers consumes a much greater quantity of certain products than normal and some shortages may occur during these uncommon occurrences. People have to be more flexible when cruising about issues such as this than on land based vacations. I am surprised it does not happen more often that they run out of certain supplies and think that in general they do a great job.
