Baltics with kids - which cruise line?

We are considering a Baltic cruise with our daughters summer 2009. The girls will be 12 and 6 at the time. We have travelled with them a great deal and have cruised with them twice before, on Disney Magic in the Caribbean and the Diamond Princess in Alaska. Does anyone have an opinion on which cruise line would be best?

I think the 12 year old would enjoy Carnival, NCL or Royal Caribbean the best- since there will be more kids on these lines than Princess, Holland America or Celebrity.

I see that Carnival is introducing the Splendor and it looks pretty awesome.

Went on RCCL's Jewel of the Seas in the Baltic a few years ago with my kids. They had a great time and there were more kids on board than we expected. I would recommend this trip. It is quite easy to come up with kid friendly shore excursions.

I'm taking my DD 9 on Crown Princess June 29th. Feel free to email me at wendybirch@yahoo.com in July, and I'll let you know how it went. The Shockwaves program looks like fun. and with a busy itinerary, they won't have as much time in the clubs as they do on the Magic in the Caribbean. Also, Princess has Anytime dining which will come in very handy for a port-intensive trip.

Also, we watched a wonderful DVD from the History Channel - I believe it was called, Russia Land of the Tsars. It was a fascinating story about the history of Russia. My DD loved it, and we are really looking forward to St Petersburg! It's available from Netflix.

Thanks for the info. JsMom2, I would love to hear about your trip when you have returned. We are leaning toward sailing on Princess because we like the 10 day itinerary out of Copenhagen. It looks like it will be the Emerald Princess next year which, I believe, is very similar to the Crown Princess. Have a great time!

A lot of us with kids have signed on for the Carnival Splendor for the Baltics this summer, but it's 12 nights from Dover. You've probably already explored that possibility, but they do have a great kids/teens program and it will be a brand new ship!

Personally, I think the Baltics are a great choice for kids, rather than the Med itineraries. The Baltic itineraries are much less hectic and the weather is fantastic for younger kids. You don't have the terribly hot and humid weather you have in the Med and the ports are much less strenuous than Med ports. I would recommend Princess or RCCI as a good choice for kids.
