Bringing Cash???

My family of 4 will cruising on JOS in 2 weeks and are trying to decide how much cash we need to bring. We have planned an excursion in St. Thomas that will require cash (full day on Rumbaba, very excited!!) so I know I need enough for that. Can we cash checks on board? I read somewhere you can get cash from the casino. The search function is down so I had to resort to posting a new question. Sorry if this has been discussed before. Also, if I did not pre-pay my tips can they still be added to our sea pass or do we need to pay those in cash as well. Thanks!

You can cash 1 personal check onboard for upto $200 or $250 if you are an AMEX card holder, you can also draw cash from the casino, which is charged to your seapass account, you tips can be added to your seapass account, I think this has to be done by day 5 of a 7 day cruise

Bring lots of cash in large bills (less bulky and easier to carry) and keep what you don't need in the room safe. Better to have MORE than you need! You can get the large bills changed to smaller bills as needed, and whatever you don't spend, take back home!

i have been trying to decide how much cash to bring as well. it's nice these days with the sea pass card. i will be putting my tips on the sea pass. you don't have to do that till the 5th day of the cruise or so so that's good. i do hear on some of these threads that you can get cash from your seapass card at the casino. they think you are going to gamble it in the casino so it's like getting a free cash withdrawal rather than using their ATM machines at 5.00 fee plus whatever your bank charges you. that's been the biggest tip regarding cash on these boards - get it at the casino. we are going on the 12 night and plan to bring cash for the various beach excursions we are doing. there will be some places that offer bars, cafe's and we will need cash to buy anything there. we picked most escursions with lunch and drinks included but a few don't have that. we probably won't need that much cash and now that i know i can get it from the casino and have it charged to my seapass card, that makes it so i can bring less with me and get it as i need it.

This is what we always do. I also go to my bank the day before we leave and get $100 in smaller bills - lots of $1's, for tipping. We keep the tip envelope in the safe, and it's very handy.

You can't get chips (not cash) at the casino .. then go back and get cash for them .. don't try walking away and coming right back .. they discourage people from using the casino to get cash ..
